FBI Agent Laurel Evertson's investigation into a scam targeting the elderly takes an unexpected twist when key evidence leads her to Morton Wilmington, a felon she arrested five years ago on her first undercover assignment. That case has haunted her since, and though she's vowed to forget Wilmington - and what she sacrificed to put him away - he is now her best lead.
Houston Police Officer Daniel Hilton fears his grandparents may be the scammer's next targets, and he'll do anything to protect his family - even force interagency cooperation. But he's quickly drawn to Laurel's empathy and zeal and agrees to follow her lead...even if it means teaming up with a felon.
As the unlikely trio uncovers evidence suggesting the scam is more extensive and deadly than they imagined, both Laurel and Daniel find themselves in the crosshairs of a killer. Together they must decide if they can trust Wilmington's claims of redemption or if he's leading them straight into a double cross.

I am now COMPLETELY hooked on DiAnn Mills' books!! Good drama and thriller with strong characters and storyline. Humor is there with tongue in the cheek.
Suzy Jackson is a very good narrator and I love the voices she did. It fitted each character brilliantly!
I HIGHLY recommend this book for some light reading....watch your heart because you might loose it 😃
"God knows and forgives all, can you?"
Many twisted and turns. Never sure who was honest. Good ending. Kept me listening all the way through.
"On the edge"
The different voices were extremely well done.
Constant twists and surprises. Who is/are the villain(s)?
The first one.
It made me tense with suspense.
The story keeps you guessing, but in the end, the denouement is wonderful.
"Nice and clean - grateful"
The story is underdeveloped in many areas. While you can follow it and the story makes sense from beginning to the end. There's just several areas in the story that are just blatantly not developed such as the attraction between the two main characters; we never really know what attracts them to each other, we only know they have nice eyes. I won't go in to the several areas where things take you off guard because story hasn't developed to make sense. I appreciate that this is a clean story.
"My favorite in the series!"
Loved the Christian aspect, which is my favorite part, but the "who done it" was very intriguing. Well written, not as much violence as the first book in the series, and the narration was great again!
"2md book in the series"
The beginning was good. the middle was redundant and lasted about 30 chapters to long.
A wonderful romantic suspense with God front and center. Well developed characters along with awesome narrator make this a must listen.
I enjoyed the first book in the series. I love a good mystery/suspense with a little romance thrown in. The first was great. This was line after line that ranged from improbable to down right stupid! I'm not sure I'll go on to the next.
"Stayed up half the night finishing it!"
A real page turner interwoven with faith, intrigue and the power of Christ to change the most unrepentant of sinners. Great storyline. Kept me engaged the entire time.
Really liked this one! The characters were strong, intertwined in a plausible way. Good Christian characters, no foul language, no sexual content. Interesting twists. A great story line. I loved Daniel's grandmother. She was awesome and the Dementia and Alzheimer approach was touching.
Narrator was good and diverse. Ready for my next listen by this author.
"Could not get past the narrator"
After reading the reviews on this book, I decided to buy it. I started listening and by chapter 2 I was done. This narrator did not pull me into the story like others have. Very boring.
