Summary

Zwölf Stufen steigt Dr. Faith Frye in ihren allnächtlichen Alpträumen hinab. Zwölf Stufen, die die damals Neunjährige in einen Keller führen, in dem sich ihre Mutter erhängt hat. Aber war da noch mehr?
Genau diese Frage muss sie sich stellen, als Jahre später eine Reihe von Mordanschlägen auf sie verübt wird. Faith Frye ändert ihre Identität und zieht von Florida nach Ohio. Im Haus ihrer Großmutter will sie ein neues, angstfreies Leben beginnen - wäre da nicht dieser Keller. Faith zwingt sich, sich dem Erbe ihrer Kindheit zu stellen, doch auf dem Weg zum Haus springt ihr eine schwerverletzte Frau vors Auto. Kurz darauf findet die Polizei unter dem Kellerfußboden zehn ausgeweidete Frauenleichen.
