Summary

Malacca Longwood is a New York City detective. He catches an especially vicious serial killer, Halyard Moonleigh, who is convicted and imprisoned, but he escapes and disappears.

Three years later the killer reappears in Malacca's home town, a place the detective left, physically and emotionally, years before. Now he must go back and confront old animosities, including racial slurs, so he can finally find and destroy Moonleigh.

Malacca has help that no one else can claim: his grandmother. She has been dead for 22 years but has never truly left him.
