Summary
Der Kriminalschriftsteller Felix Layton kommt aufgeregt zu Inspektor Melford und gesteht, den Liebhaber seiner Frau ermordet zu haben. Es stellt sich heraus, dass der genannte Mann weder der Liebhaber von Mrs. Layton noch tot ist. Bald darauf bezichtigt sich der Schriftsteller, seine Frau ermordet zu haben - auch das stimmt nicht. Layton wird wegen seiner offensichtlichen Neurose ärztlich behandelt - von seinem Schwager, der Psychiater ist.
Dann verschwindet der reiche Onkel Laytons spurlos - und diesmal wird die Leiche tatsächlich gefunden. Wieder behauptet Layton, der Täter zu sein. Leider stimmt die Art, wie er seinen Onkel umgebracht haben will, nicht mit der festgestellten Todesart überein. Inspektor Melford muss sich entscheiden: Ist der überspannte Schriftsteller ein Mörder oder nicht?
