Summary
To her, every death matters. And she won't stop until the scales of justice are balanced.
No matter how hard she tries, Homicide Detective Adila Cooper can't outrun her past. Buried in her work, she soon finds herself pulled into a killer's world that she's never experienced before. With opposition from both sides of the law, it'll take everything she can to end these seemingly senseless murders.

Addictive and well narrated
Both the author and narrator are new to me and I can say that I will be looking for more by both, especially the rest of the series. The narration worked well with the story.
This was a different take on the standard police procedural, had the usual issues with the lead detective but was handled well.

"Looks like we've found our screamer."
Detective Adila Cooper has been a cop for 21 years and is reluctant to have the rooky partnered with her. She wasn't popular since ratting out her previous one. A girl is brought in, bruised and battered, probably raped: she'd been on the missing list for several days. Too many homicides in Baltimore. Like all of James Hunt's stories, the reader is thrown straight into this one, grabbing, then holding, attention, action packed and intriguing.
The narration by Mikela Drew is well modulated, her performance infusing a sense of desperation to the text, heightening the reading experience. However, this story is incomplete. More an ongoing serial than a series of novellas. There is no satisfactory ending to this otherwise riveting read.
