Summary

Melanie West is getting her life back on track after a messy divorce when her grandmother, Liza Harris, asks her to join her in opening a bed-and-breakfast inn. Together, Liza and Melanie purchase a purportedly haunted mansion on the Oregon coast and jump right into clearing out the cobwebs. But while attempting to remove wallpaper in an upstairs bedroom, the new B&B owners stumble upon a very real skeleton in their closet. The police suspect the skeleton is that of the wife of the previous owner of the B&B, but no one in town seems to want to say much about her.

As the inn owners try to juggle renovations with their own amateur investigations, their grand opening looms closer and closer - and a friendly ghost in their walls starts playing tricks. But it all comes crashing to a halt when a new body is found stabbed to death on the beach below the inn - the victim chillingly close in resemblance to Melanie herself. It seems someone doesn't appreciate newcomers prying into the small town's past, and now it's up to Melanie and Liza to get to the bottom of these murders to save their business - and their lives.

Cosy mystery

I thought I was listening to E. J Copperman's book. It starts identically! Single mum, renovating a seaside Victorian house to set it up as a guest house. Friendly ghosts as well. Goodness is this plagiarism or coincidence? Having just finished binging on E.J. Cooperman books, I'm going to have to wait before listening to much of this story. I already have a gripe with the narrator. Her "English" accent is really painful for an English person to listen to, even though the location is USA and an American narrator is appropriate.

Terrible narration

Cant get past first chapter, it hurts the ears to listen to the so called British accent. I’m English and don’t know anyone, let alone an owner of a B&B who would speak like that!

awful narrator, non-story

Boring and the narrator is terrible. The English accent is particularly bad - think Hyacinth Bucket!

so glad we didn't pay for this book

best part - when it finally ended!
7hrs we're not getting back.

this book is definitely a struggle to finish, my wife and I thought the premise was quirky enough to make for a nice distraction during a roadtrip,

at first it was fun point out flaws, such as the English granny using Americanism and the granddaughter using UK-isms like fusebox.
By midway, it was tedious.
finishing was painful

Dreadful

A story with more holes than a Gouda cheese. For example, a body hidden behind a cupboard, wallpapered over in a bedroom, reduced to bone and ragged clothes within seven years, no mention of smell or body fluids etc. Talking of cheese, stories don't come much cheesier than this one. Body found in bedroom, la, la, la, isn't the detective gorgeous.
The narrator is great with American voices, but when it comes to British, I think she has modelled herself on comic imitations of Maggie Smith in Downton Abby. It is PAINFUL to listen to, and ruined any saving graces this book may have had as a 'mindless listen'.
I feel very churlish leaving this review after I was given the book for free from the wonderful Audible.com, but it was so bad I won't settle until I've warned others of the mistake you will be making downloading this book.

Couldn’t finish as narration so poor

I thought the storey was very good but it was spoilt by the poor narration, especially the English accent. Terrible. I couldn’t finish it but I’m going to buy the book.

Could have been better

Some of the story was unbelievable. The dog part ? The eating out every day with the money struggles ? And the men voice and British accent weren't great. But still an enjoyable story.

Excellent title for gripping Tale

This was my first Audible included book and I couldn’t stop listening the characters were very real and likeable. I wished there had been a more detailed ending, but to go into this would be a spoiler. I would recommend this book as good relaxing listening
