They call it The Heartland Child Murders. Everyone else calls it a nightmare. Locked doors don't stop him. He leaves no trace behind. He only takes little girls. His nickname: The Iceman.
A deranged serial killer roams wintry rural Nebraska with a demented purpose no one can fathom. Special Agent Emma Kane, a former DC cop and damaged goods now with the FBI, is assigned to babysit burnt-out profiler Jacob Thorne, once the best in the business but now said to have lost his edge, as they both fly to Nebraska to catch this maniac. Thorne is erratic, abrasive and unpredictably brilliant, but what he and Kane find in the heartland is much more than anyone bargained for, especially when the Iceman challenges them personally. The clock is ticking and a little girl's life is on the line. And maybe even more with that, once they find out what he's really up to.

"What an ending!"
I read thousands of books in my life and I have to say there aren't many I haven't guessed the ending. This had twists and turns at the end but the final ending blew me away. If you like psychological suspense and good mysteries then this is a book you must listen to. Exceptional plot and good narrator. Hoe to see more by this author.
"Great listen! Great plot including great ...5"
...Characters. BUT... The conclusion is the best ending I have ever read. It is totally a surprise and shockingly so. WOW!! I could use as many superlative adjectives I know and still not adequately describe how extreme the conclusion effects all that came before.
After reading my remarks, do yourself a big favor and don't let curiosity overpower you to read the conclusion first. You'll be very sorry you ruined a great mystery!
"OH MY GOODNESS"
The writing is fast paced once you get started. The end has more twists than a goat's mountain pass. Don't want to give anything else away! Will definitely read again!!!
"Good, Not Great"
Talented but cranky and arrogant profiler forced to retire from FBI is asked back to deal with serial killer called The Iceman and with a new partner. He really is unlikeable and always right. His behavior is unbelievable and doesn't ring true. The mystery is okay (makes the book worthy of three stars), but involves kids being murdered which I don't like, so I knocked story down to two stars.
Narrator is fine. Not sure if I would buy this author again.
"a Book well worth listening"
the narrator was just right
It keep me on my toes until the end, and that was a surprising ending
no but I will be checking into all the book he narrates
I hope the author writes more books like this
"HORRIBLE!!!!!!! PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS BOOK!"
Where to begin? The only reason it got 1 star is because it is required, otherwise I wouldn't even have given it that. The story is terrible, the characters unlikeable and cartoonish.
I got fooled into buying this book because I thought Bill Murray the iconic actor would be reading it. Unfortunately it wasn't. Bill Murray's reading is so overacted (shame on the director for not reeling him in). Please don't buy this book. Don't be fooled. Let this review stand as a warning. It is HORRENDOUSLY bad. and Travis Todd should not be allowed to continue writing books.
Anything that ISN'T written by Travis Todd or read by Bill Murray!
I wouldn't have let this book get published let alone recorded into an audio book. No voice actor could make this book any better.
Anger, disappointment. and irritation at how badly written this book is
I would recommend people to NOT buy this book and Audible shouldn't even make available to the public.
Yes, in tenhe future...
Thrilling read [OK, listen] with a surprise ending... I loved this book!
LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I have also read Trophies the second book and loved that one just as much! I hope there is more to come!!
this book had some problems, the main one being the narrator. it's not Bill Murray the actor, this guy sounds a bit like Casey Casem for those of you who remember him. while the storyline was sometimes interesting and there were some decent twists, the action sequences went by too quickly, were read in a stilted manner and the rest of the story was peppered with bad jokes and awful dialogue. I'm someone who often listens to my audibooks over and over, I doubt I'll listen to this one again. this book needed a decent editor and a better writer.
"Thorn in your side."
The narrator reminded me of a animal safari documentary. watch the bouncing running playing ferrets or what ever. His tone would go up and down like that but after the characters were introduced and the main character Thorn took over the story was rather entertaining, he does have a foul mouth but some people do. A good detective novel with twist and turns and it leads you to think you are learning something. Then you think you have it all solved in the end. Pay close attention no mercy will be given if you yawn you'll miss it.
