Publisher's Summary

Winner of the 2016 Audie Mystery Award

When a mysterious package is delivered to Robin Ellacott, she is horrified to discover that it contains a woman's severed leg. Her boss, private detective Cormoran Strike, is less surprised but no less alarmed. There are four people from his past whom he thinks could be responsible - and Strike knows that any one of them is capable of sustained and unspeakable brutality.

With the police focusing on the one suspect Strike is increasingly sure is not the perpetrator, he and Robin take matters into their own hands and delve into the dark and twisted worlds of the other three men. But as more horrendous acts occur, time is running out for the two of them....

A fiendishly clever mystery with unexpected twists around every corner, Career of Evil is also a gripping story of a man and a woman at a crossroads in their personal and professional lives. You will not be able to switch this audiobook off.

    "Galbraith/Rowling's best so far"
    Any additional comments?

I found it intriguing and intensifying listening to this book and watching the story unfold written by one of the master storytellers of my generation. It is thrilling to watch Rowling's work in adult storytelling evolve. For instance, this book is a lot more revealing and a tad more gory than her previous novels - it pulls no punches.

Cormoran Strike is at his finest in yet another gripping edition to the entertaining detective series, full of action and suspense with more twists than a formula one racing track. Rowling is evolving (this is only her 3th adult novel) and as I mentioned previously this book; parallel to her career, just keeps getting better and better.

I love Strike, I love his assistant and I loved the storyline. This is definitely Strike at his most vulnerable and the most he's been in danger so far. It will be hard to top this.

    "Literary Brilliance"
Would you consider the audio edition of Career of Evil to be better than the print version?

Wouldn't know. Why do Audible use this question, when it is highly unlikely that the reviewer would have read and listened to the same book

Who was your favorite character and why?

'Strike'. I've listened to the three Cormoran Strike books consecutively and his character just grows on you, his humour, his irrational temper and with each book you pick apart the hidden aspects of his past piece by piece.

Have you listened to any of Robert Glenister’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Yes, quite a few. He is without doubt the very best narrator on the market. He is so gifted that he gives life and depth to each of his characters, regardless of gender and age

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Strike.......

    Any additional comments?

I am a tad embarrassed to say that I had no idea that the writer Robert Galbraith is pseudonym for JK Rowling. And in many ways I'm glad that I was so blissfully unaware. I enjoyed the books for what they are, cracking detective thrillers. My conclusion is that JK is one hell of a writer and I'm equally pleased that the BBC have picked up the first two-books. Phillip Glenister please as Cormoran Strike.

    "Great story brilliantly read!"

Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling) is an exceptionally gifted story teller and must be a dream to read for particularly for someone as talented as Robert Glenister. Between them the characters are rendered totally believable and the story (though rather ghoulish) completely absorbing.

Pity there won't be another one out for a while as I'm keen to hear what happens next to Strike and Robin.

"Good but far from the 2 first boks."

It is a good book, unnerving and lots of suspense but I found the relationship between Robin and Strike exagerated a little silly. I really dont understand why they workshop to getter anymore. I also was not very keen on the "ripper" story. To much gore and hate for my taste and the theme is "old".

Great job by the narrator. ..

    "Well write book"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this book is excellent. The only problem is after you read the books of Robert Galbraith, you do not be satisfy with many writers. This writer bring you since the first page inside the book. The characters are very well develop, the stories are good and the style of writers are the best.

What did you like best about this story?

    Everything

What about Robert Glenister’s performance did you like?

He has a great voice for the kind of books of Galbraith.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Sometimes I laugh. I just listen careful I did not want to lose any part of the book. This serie is the kind of books I will listen several times.

    Any additional comments?

I know the series will continue, and I will listen to each of one of this writer book.
I did not like Harry Potter books. I do not like fiction books.

A 3.5 stars for the book. It was good as expected but a little stretched to an extent that somewhere in the middle I started losing interest. I did not feel disinterested anywhere with first two books of the series. In the end 'The Silkworm' still remains my favourite of the Cormoran Strike series.

    "Good Villan Guessing"
What did you love best about Career of Evil?

I really liked the whole "Who done it?" aspect of the book. The three villans suspects were well fleshed out through Strike's flashbacks. They each had reasons to be the main suspect.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The plot got better as the book went on. I started lisening slowly, and then for the second half of the book, I was listening to it in my car and while making dinner, to find out what was going on.

Which character – as performed by Robert Glenister – was your favorite?

I have a real soft spot for Shanker. I really liked how his voice was virtually unreckonisable from the other characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The second half of the book was better than the first half.

    Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next book, there's still some unanswered questions about the main characters.

"Cormorand and Robin at their best!"

Another brilliant crime thriller featuring Cormorand Strike and his "partner" Robin.

From the moment a woman's leg arrived at the Private Investigator's office, addressed to his Girl Friday and partner, Robin, the story was on!

I'm a fan of Robert Galbraith and this novel built on the previous ones also featuring Cormorand and Robin. It is an interesting tale of two strong characters solving crimes, in spite of personal and financial constraints.

This story introduces a new character, Shanker. I really enjoyed this new, colourful character and the role he plays in assisting the two primary protagonists.

The villain is evil to the core, has motives that run deeper than simple pleasures or malice - that make him unpredictable and interesting.

It is a long book, but my attention was hooked from start to finish and I didn't want it to end. I'm looking forward to their next adventure.

Robert Glenister is a master narrator! His accents and voices are brilliant! I really enjoyed his style and will listen to more books that are narrated by him.

I began reading this series simply because I like Robert Glenister's voice, but I am hooked.
The story lines are fast paced and well crafted, and the reading by Glenister is sensational.

Anyone who enjoys a thriller will love this, but if some naughty words concern you this may not be the book for you.
