NFL linebacker-turned-lawyer Jake Lassiter has had it with shifty clients, dirty prosecutors, and a legal system out of whack. It's enough to make a man want to leave Miami and never look back - until he gets a call from Victoria Lord, the better half of hot local legal team Solomon & Lord. Her partner in life and law has been arrested for murder. What's worse: the only person who can clear him has fled the city. Now it's up to Jake and Victoria to track down the witness - a stunning "bar girl" - before she's roped in by the feds...or eliminated by the Russian mob.
Jake knows that if he doesn't get to the witness first, his client's case is lost. Luckily, he's got some good advice from his college football coach: "Buckle your chin strap and hit somebody". And sometimes, the only way to win a tough case is to do just that.

"My expectations were low...."
for this crime/trial novel, but to my surprise it was a really cute story. It's well worth the 7.5 hours listening time.
I so far haven't come across a Levine book that I didn't enjoy. In this one Steve has to be quieter than usual, but he remains his quirky self. I like the legal shenanigans and the demystifying of judges, D A hirelings, and semi-honest defense attorneys. I have encountered them all in my career. Of course, most of these folks are really good people and justice is served well in the end. A special blessing here is that it's served with humorous good fun.
"Nice Mash-Up of Levine's Nicely Defined Characters"
Since Levine's earliest work (To Speak For the Dead) I've been a fan and took a second reading of Solomon vs. Lord to appreciate his widening body of work. Enjoyed the intersection of these characters and artful balance with the wit and wiles that have become hallmarks of Levine's craft. As an audiobook, much of the onus comes from the narration, and while I know the value of speed reading when it comes to navigating the printed page, the "speed reading" of Bum Rap felt like too much of that Cuban coffee was consumed in the process.
"Love the combination of Solomon Lord and Lassiter!"
Contrasting Lassiter and Solomon with Lord as the pivot point was brilliant. Each character challenges the other in unexpected twists and turns, resulting in an unanticipated and perfect ending ... A great read!
He was a big part to my negative rating. It was really bad and I just couldn't move past it.
This MAY have been a good story. In all fairness, I did not finish it. I simply could not stand to listen to it anymore. So, the story was not interesting enough to compensate for the narration and vice versa.
Such a shame.
this book is entertaining as all of Levine's book have been. it is pretty simplistic Indic not enjoy the narrator on this story. I do not think I got audio previously. probably my last Levine book for a while
"Passes the time"
It's finally over. The wrap up is ok, the last chapter is disappointing. Not sure it's worth the time.
"It was okay"
I listen to books while I work, so it wasn't time wasted; I am listening while completing my work.
Jake Lassiter seems like a whiny character. I was glad that Victoria Lord and Steve Solomon were present in the story because I really enjoy the Solomon vs. Lord books. I wish that they had included Bobby and Steve's dad in the story....they always add humor and depth.
I thought he sounded a lot like Adam West and I love Adam West.
probably not, but I would see Solomon Vs. Lord movies
I love Jake's "Granny"...she is a wonderful character and should have more presence.
"The story is nice and intriguing, but"
The performance needed a female voice as well. Also the story while great one, the solving the dilemma part is not justified. Over all good read and I would recommend it.
I enjoyed this book so much. Fun filled excitement. I learned to love and dislike some of the characters. I could not stop listening.
