Breathtaking

I was gripped from the beginning to the end. I found that I was on the edge of my seat in some parts. Sympathetic in others. Wonderfully written and narrated. Highly recommended.

Can't finish it..

I am sure the story is okay and it's written well, but the inconsistent accents for all the characters is driving me insane!!! Random South African / queen's English / Bristolian. Horrific!

Boring boring boring

Narrator was terrible. Story is dull, characters are frustrating and numerous instances where a little more research by the author would have been useful.

Far fetched story and very unconvincing.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The vocabulary of the 9 year old was too old for a child. The characters overall did not come across as convincing and were shallow.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Quite ridiculous and silly that things would go that far.

Could you see Bone by Bone being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

No.

Any additional comments?

As I said above, the characters and situations were very shallow and black and white. I especially found the father of the bully overdrawn and we never really found out why he behaved like he did.

Long time getting started

I felt myself become increasingly frustrated at the wimpishness of this mother and how many chapters had to be listened to before any action took place. I gave up on it twice but eventually got through it. Weak storyline, minus a twist and too long. Not recommended.

Unsure if I like this book or not

I felt really uncomfortable listening to Bone by Bone.
I wanted the main character to do what I consider the right thing, and go to the police at the start of the issues.
Nevertheless I stayed with it and ultimately feel that is a few hours of my life I won't get back.
Saving grace is the excellent narration.

Predictable

I struggled to finish this. The main characters were irritating, and I actually hoped they would all die horribly. I had to finish it to see if there was a twist or something. Anything. sadly not.

Not for me

Weak women.
Every person of colour was a 'bad' person.
Stretching things to make the plot.
Not for me.

Annoying

I found the character of the mother feeble and highly annoying. So much so that I had to give up on this quite early on. The disasters that lay ahead were so clearly road marked I found it too painfully listen too.
