Blow Fly

First download from audible, loved the book and have already downloaded the next book in the Scarpetta series. Twists and turns right to the end. Enjoyed the narration. Listening to a few chapters a day, the book lasted a month. Good value I would say.

Read the Last Precinct First!!

This is a follow on to the last precinct and it closes all but one loop or should I say Loup for this story.

Scarpetta plus the Scooby gang pay a visit to Baton Rouge little knowing that all her movements are being manipulated. She also gets the shock of her life ......... read it an enjoy!

Blow Fly

The audio book enhances the written as you can just close your eyes and be totally immersed in the story.
The story keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for Kay Scarpetta to unfold the plot with its twists and turns - the characters are so real you almost know them.

Blow Fly

What did you like best about Blow Fly? What did you like least?

Blow Fly continues the story of Scarpetta, which for 11 books has so far been an exciting journey. However, Cornwell's change of pace and style in this book is jaunting, telling the story from multiple narrative perspectives and shifting into the present tense. It's utterly perplexing and completely changes the level of enjoyment I have had for these books so far. Some of the plot points in this story, particularly the return of one long-dead character, is bizarre and at times, Cornwell seems to be clutching at straws with what story to write. It takes a long time for any real plot to develop or unfold.

Do you think Blow Fly needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I will be interested to see how Cornwell manages to progress the story beyond Blow Fly in Trace. Hopefully, she'll return to some of her previous writing styles.

One of the weaker Scarpetta novels.

What did you like best about Blow Fly? What did you like least?

As the title says, this is one of the weaker Scarpetta novels. For some reason Cornwell decided to switch from first to third person, and it jars a bit. It also highlights the weakness of some of the character development. The plot is also fairly ludicrous. I don't want to spoil it for anyone too much, but there are too many things going on, too many coincidences and a lot of unbelievable, contrived happenings, as well as one big surprise that feels like a very undisguised attempt to breathe some life and interest back into a flagging series.

It is also too repetitive, constantly reminding you of what has happened in previous books in a way which feels less like a helpful reminder than a patronising way of padding the word count.

Has Blow Fly put you off other books in this genre?

It has not put me off other books in the genre because I already know that crime thrillers are not often literary classics, they are a bit of easy entertainment.

Have you listened to any of Lorelei King’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have only listened to Lorelei King reading Patricia Cornwell books but she is very consistent and easy to listen to. Her range of voices is perhaps not the greatest but she conveys tone fairly well.

Gripping story and great characters

Fantastic story line - good on it own but better as the follow-on from the previous book. Suspenseful and exciting but with emotion and depth of character development. Can’t wait to listen to the next one.

Captivating

Perfectly believable and very fast moving - impossible to “put down” this novel reflects the work of a genius.

Bit long winded in some places

Good book but my least favourite so far, it could have been shorter as it was a bit long winded in bits

Not one of her finest

I found this book to be confusing, boring and not easy to follow. I very nearly abandoned it several times but stuck it out. Didn’t really enjoy it. Too many characters with too many strange stories.
