good story
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
I'm making my way through all of the Hill and Jordan series and i enjoyed the story but the very poor accents put on my the narrator really annoyed me and i'm now not sure about the the rest of the series now
What didn’t you like about Saul Reichlin’s performance?
very poor regional accents

Pronunciation
Enjoyed this book as much as others in the series but was annoyed that the narrator hadn’t done his homework. It’s di- j- oxin not di-g-oxin and annik Castle not olnwick.

Good series
Having seen one or two of the TV programs it was great to get back to the source material. However I don’t enjoy the narrator. He seems to labour over the dialogue and some of the accents are terrible. For instance a so called welsh accent sounded like an Indian accent. However if I want to continue with the series I have no choice but put up with it. And it’s worth it!

Good but spoilt by narrator
An unlikely plot but quite entertaining. Like many of this series it is spoilt by the reader. He sounds prim and elderly and poor old Saul just doesn't do accents (with possible exception of a rather comic, constipated scouse).

Poor accents
Some of the accents did not ring true. The Welsh accent sounded Asian and another accent soundedJapanese.

Pity about the accents
Any additional comments?
Saul Reichlin has read other things (millenium trilogy)brilliantly, but his accents in this were laughably awful, which really detracted from a typically gripping story from Val McDermid

Another intricate case
Val McDermid again teases the reader with complex and intertwined murder cases against the ongoing background of Tony and Carol's relationship. A page turner narrated well by Saul Reichlin - although the mispronounced Alnwick did bring me up short!

a great book, shame about narrator
Fantastic and well written book as always by Val McDermid. Unfortunately, the narration completely ruined it. The accents were terrible, he made two of the characters (one of which was a woman) sound like Frank Spencer! Welsh accents sounded Indian and the others were completely indistinguishable. First time I've ever regretted buying an audible book.

Quite a good story but awful accents
I have been slowly working my way through this seties with gaps in between. This was not my favourite as I felt there was a bit of a “recipe” that was been followed similar to earlier books. However, it was still a good story but totally spoilt by the accents the narrator attempted. They were cringeworthy!

Not one of my favourites
To be honest the relationship between the two protagonists is starting to get a bit on my wick by this point!
