A chilling psychological thriller for fans of Gillian Flynn, Nicci French, Sophie Hannah, S. J. Watson and Elizabeth Haynes that will haunt you long after you've finished listening....
In this dark psychological thriller, Olivia Taylor believes she has suffered the worst life can throw at her after the breakup of her marriage. Full of hope, she starts a new life with her nine-year-old daughter, Ellie, only to find the worst is yet to come.
Meeting Michael Crossman is the beginning of an unspeakable nightmare for Olivia, and her world slowly unravels. It is only through the retelling of her story that we piece together what has led her to become a mere shadow of the woman she once was.

Olivia is a disappointment selfish and stupid woman. I was not convinced be her relationship or the ending. The book was 90% boring and slow. Even the readers voice was boring. Don't understand why this has such great reviews. A terrible book!
The story was flat and the conclusion did not justify the suspense.
None of the 3 main characters were likeable, and Olivia was difficult to relate to, her immediate obsession with her neighbour was not realistic.
Disappointing read the book should not be compared to Gillian Flynn or S.J Watson
loved this story, it kept me gripped front start to finish, desperately trying get to work out how it ended. brilliantly narrated. 5 stars again from me.
Love audiobooks, keeps my hands free to do housework or drive.
captivating story which is well written but a horrible and utterly flat ending. the main character is a flaky and weak person with severe pychological issues. implausible at times.
"A Hot Mess"
The only thing that could get me through this sorry tale is another stellar performance by Lisa Coleman.
The main character is a sad excuse for a woman on every level. A fine example of the dim witted stereo type: women who let their desire to be loved by a man trump all form of reason. Childish and pathetic. I have never disliked a character more.
I have enjoyed other Kathryn Croft novels but this one missed the mark completely. The abrupt silly ending was the icing on the cake. A hot mess from beginning to end.
"Emding falls short
I really enjoyed listening to this book, but when the plot and ending all came together, it was too much, too quick! It felt like the author was suddenly on a deadline and had to end it quickly. I felt like too many things were left undone. I needed more.
"Do women like this really exist?!!?"
The performance was fantastic! And normally I love Kathryn Croft, but this... the main character is a hideous excuse for a mother let alone human being. I know, we all make bad decisions, and there has to be some level of "flawed" to build the story line; however, this is just heinous. The ending didn't shock me, and like others have pointed out, it seemed rushed and thrown together just to finish the book. I'll still read and listen to Crofts books, but if you're looking for a good one, let this one pass... it's not worth it. And will likely leave you frustrated and disgruntled like so many of the others, and myself.
"A Disappointing One for Croft..."
I have been a fan of Katherine Kroft's books for a few weeks now, the last 3 all being nearly page turners.
This one, unfortunately, was not. While I had some sympathy for the main character, I grew tired of the predictability of her thought processes. I knew that the main male in the story would ultimately change her life, but only when halfway through did I realize it wouldn't be quite as I'd initially expected.
I did enjoy the way 's. Craft told this story as the main character, speaking to the male. A different angle--which was really the only reason I finished the book.....that and Lisa Coleman's narration is always perfection!!!
"Fantastic ending...just took too long to get there"
This is the third Kathryn Croft book I have listened to. I think she is a fantastic, suspense writer, and the first two books, I just LOVED. This one is still her great character development and twist and turns, but I really didn't start getting interested until about midway through. It felt like it took so long to "grab my attention". To be honest, if this hadn't been a Kathryn Croft book, I probably would have given up, but I just love her so much that I wanted to really give it a chance. Now, the last quarter of the book was fantastic! Left me on the edge of my seat and I LOVED the surprise ending. I know it's a lot to ask, but I want that feeling the whole way through a book...not just the last part.
Side note: The narrator was great!
Nothing, the story was terrible.
This book was awful...it was like watching someone's ordinary life... NOTHING happens. I read to pull myself out of the ordinary day to day... Nothing of note happens in the book until the final 2 chapters, and even then you are so bored you really don't care what happens to this main character. I still don't know what ruined the 1st marriage of the main woman, infidelity I guess... there was zero details on that. And then she just seems like a complete idiot. She refuses to tell people about this man she is seeing, living with for god's sake but has no idea why... Then she starts getting "threatened" by a man that if it really was him doing "bad" things to ruin her life so much she has to move to another country could have been avoided with 3 little words, "IM SEEING SOMEONE". Ughhh awful. Don't waste your time or credits.
"Not really a psychological thriller"
I don't really know how I feel about this book. The characters were weak and the story was flimsy. And the first half was more reminiscent of Fifty Shades. I was happy when the book ended so I could move on to something better (hopefully).
"Stupid and just plain bad!"
This ending is stupid! It built up and built up and then nothing ! Such a disappointment ! Stupid stupid stupid writing!
"WASTE OF TIME!"
I am disgusted at myself for wasting time on this stupid story. not only did I have " the mystery " figured out early on, but I couldn't for the life of me understand how this weak, dimwitted woman could expose her daughter to these drunken bunch of weird-os. The guy Michael was obviously a nut case. Olivia continued to make the most ubsurd excuses for his more than bizarre behaivior. I'm sorry to say, but this was a sick, mess. no recommendation here!!!!!!!!
