Summary

A freak accident in rural Wyoming leads the sheriff's department to arrest a man for a possible double homicide, but further investigations suggest a much more horrifying discovery - a serial killer who has been kidnapping, torturing, and mutilating victims all over the United States for at least 25 years. The suspect claims he is a pawn in a huge labyrinth of lies and deception - can he be believed?

The case is immediately handed over to the FBI, but this time they're forced to ask for outside help. Ex-criminal behavior psychologist and lead detective with the Ultra Violent Crime Unit of the LAPD Robert Hunter is asked to run a series of interviews with the apprehended man. These interviews begin to reveal terrifying secrets that no one could've foreseen, including the real identity of a killer so elusive that no one, not even the FBI, had any idea he existed...until now.

Couldn't listen to this narrator.

Thomas Judd is the voice of Detective Hunter; changing to a different narrator simply does not work.

unbearable to listen to, stick to the book!

awful narrating, impressions, pronouncement. Shouldn't even be allowed to work in a call centre. ruined Chris Carter's work. Glad it's a free trial!! I'd sooner pay not to hear another book read by this guy!

Silence of the Lambs meets a textbook

What would have made An Evil Mind better?

If there was less time spent listening to endless drivel from the "bad guy".

What will your next listen be?

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly

Which character – as performed by George Newburn – was your favourite?

Robert Hunter I suppose as he was the main character

What character would you cut from An Evil Mind?

Lucien..... which would make it just a criminal profiling textbook I believe

Any additional comments?

Disappointing read. The rest of the Robert Hunter books are fast paced and exciting with twists and turns. This was just long passages by the Hannibal Lechter type character about how he beat the criminal profiling textbooks... with just way too much time spent reading out bitter diatribes. I fell asleep more listening to this book than any other. Disappointing from start to finish.

This is a you won't believe there's more story

Fantastically but hideously violent but it is cliff-hanger after cliff-hanger. Sometimes adding a shock on a shock. Great story and would read more but it pushes credibility beyond the point of mad.
BUT for all I can criticise it, it is a well crafted story well written and Chris is clearly a craftsman

A cleaver thriller

This is a well written thriller which gripped right from the start and didn't let go. Without giving anything away it's a battle of will and wits of two old friends. Each on different sides of the law. Well worth a listen, it's no ordinary serial killer thriller.

More mayhem and murder.

It’s another kill, murder, death from the conveyor belt of Chris Carter’s Robert Hunter series and yes it’s been compared to Hannibal Lector from Silence of the Lambs and John Doe from Se7en but it’s more than that.

We learn more about Hunters back story and we delve into a right creepy killers head plus Garcia isn’t involved. I have to say if I were Hunter I think I would have been pushing up the Daisy’s a long time ago ... so sad. Twists and turns a plenty!

Yes I enjoyed it and yes the new narrator did a good job and yes I will continue with the series. Recommend... yes!

One sick dude

Would you consider the audio edition of An Evil Mind to be better than the print version?

Not read the print.

What was one of the most memorable moments of An Evil Mind?

The realisation who the killer was

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Hard to say there were a few

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Cc books are always packed with suspense

Any additional comments?

Some people say cc's shocks just for the sake of it. Yes he is more graphical with his torture and gore than the standard thriller novelist but in my opinion that is what makes him so good! The only reason I've marked him down slightly was because I was a little disappointed with the end, thought I was a bit rushed and convenient
