Summary

FINALIST: The Audie Awards 2016

This was to be her last day alive. The renowned criminal psychologist Ira Samin prepared her suicide thoroughly. The death of her eldest daughter had weighed too heavily on her conscience for her to carry on and she yearned for one last drink to raise a toast to oblivion. Her morbid plans are interrupted and she is called in to negotiate a gruesome hostage situation at a radio station where a psychopath is playing a morbid game.

While the show is on air, he calls people from the phonebook at random. If they pick up the phone with a certain slogan, a hostage is set free. If they don't, then the hostage is unceremoniously shot. The man threatens to continue playing this game until his fiancée arrives at the studio. The only problem is that his fiancée died several months ago....

AMOK is a gripping audiodrama and tense psychological hostage thriller set in a Berlin Radio Station, from the internationally renowned author of the best-selling Audible Original Drama The Child.

The Case of the Missing "I"

This isn't bad, that's for sure. The quality cast give it their all and it's a fairly entertaining way to spend 8 hours. That's actually longer than the average full cast production has tended to be too so it represents good value for money. The production values are high and the acting is good enough. But . . . it did feel a little over-dramatised at times and the succession of Aha! moments as a series of characters outlined their hidden motives and shocking plans did grate a little.

I'm a big fan of the efforts that Audible are going to with full cast productions as a supplement to traditional audiobooks but this one doesn't hit the heights of some of their other efforts and is good rather than great.

So maybe the title is missing an I . . . and rather than AMOK it should say I AM OK (but not great).

I think just not for me

Narration was ok but they have put lots of dramatic music and long pauses between chapters
For me made the story break up

Enjoyable story with steady relentless pace.

Fitzek writes good drama, and the actors deliver it really well. A good number of plot twists keep you guessing just enough without it becoming twists for the sake of it. A little bit near and tidy in wrapping up rather than big guy-wrenching sucker punches but it sits comfortably and doesn't detract from a good tale.

Gripping story due to actors but clunky writing

The writing was cringeworthy at times & too predictable. The acting was mostly good, particularly Yann May. I was interested enough to listen to it all because I wanted to know the outcome, but I was generally disappointed with the quality of the writing. The plot went a bit nuts towards the end & ended up in the realm of utterly ridiculous

It ran AMOK with my life

I had to get to the end as quickly as possible. So every chance I had I listened. A few sleepless nights.
The twist was unpredictable but once revealed realised as the only way.
The main character made me cry. As a mother it's only natural. May as a man who could not let go oh my what a strong unyielding man.
A very strong story dramatised by a strong cast. Bravo. Well done.

Very enjoyable

I rarely listen to audible dramas mostly preferibg books with just one narrator . this however was well done with a interesting story line . I haven't seen the film but will look out for it now . in all an enjoyable book which only took me two days to get through
