Publisher's Summary

Your fear is their entertainment... Andrew's life is one of bored contentedness: a teenage daughter, a faithful wife, and a middle-class job. He even has a Mercedes. His life is without drama, and the comfort of middle-age is setting in. That all changes when he refuses to buy a pack of cigarettes for the local gang of youths. Led by the emotionally unstable, and sadistic, Frankie, the gang target Andrew and his family in an escalating campaign of terror and violence that threatens their very lives. It isn't long before Andrew starts to wish that he'd just brought those damn cigarettes.

"Pay 1/2 price b/c the book is only 50% good!"

The first half of ASBO was quite good. However, after the "main event," it's all quickly downhill on ice right into a huge pine tree. Do not recommend.

    "Disturbing"
Where does ASBO rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A very good book. Even more terrifying, because I can see this one actually happening.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Andrew, I feel horrible for him.. his whole life goes to hell in a matter of hours and just gets worse as time goes on,

Which character – as performed by Nigel Patterson – was your favorite?

Frankie. A true psychopath. Nigel Patterson did great with all the voices though. He has a very pleasant voice, a pleasure to listen to.

    Any additional comments?

Audiobook received for an honest review.

"A true story, Not for the faint of heart"
What did you love best about ASBO?

It grabbed me right from the start and only got better as the story progressed.

What other book might you compare ASBO to and why?

I think Housemates is similar because it grabbed me from the start also. It was not a true story as far as I know but it gave me the same sense of horror and dread. I love the Author and Narrator!

Have you listened to any of Nigel Patterson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to 1 other book by Nigel Patterson and he is fantastic in both! I love horror but I am going to explore different types of books just to listen to Nigel Pattersons voice. He uses different voices for each character and he is able to put the correct emotion in his voice that the character is feeling. I am watching a movie just by listening and getting tons of exercise too since I listen only when walking.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book in 2 walks! That was over 20 miles in 2 days just so I could hear it all!

    Any additional comments?

I have enjoyed many of IRW's stories. This one is no exception. I had purchased the book as well so I could go back and forth between listening and reading. I wound up listening rather than reading. The narrator was very good and the story kept me entertained and eager to continue to listen.

    Story
"Disturbing yes, scary, not so much."

From the cover and the reviews I expected to be scared by this book. Instead I found myself waiting and constantly thinking of all of the other instances in which I have already seen/read/heard this story. It IS disturbing, but I didn't find anything tension building or extra "scary" in this book. I just kept thinking A Clockwork Orange, Last House on the Left, etc.

It might have been more psychologically disturbing and "scary" if I had given a crap about any of the characters, but I didn't identify with or care enough about any of the characters enough to be dragged into the horror they were experiencing.

This book fell pretty flat for me, and at the end, I still don't know what Abso is or why the book is called that. Maybe I need to be a Britt and not just and Anglophile to get or care about it. I did enjoy listening the the narration enough to go all the way to the end, in spite of the fact that I pretty much knew the ending of the book as soon as we met the pivotal character.

"Cant get enough of Wright and Patterson"

Everything about ASBO was memorable, from the characters to the narration. This is the kind of horror that can, and probably does happen in real life and both the narrator and the author do a tremendous job bringing the story to life. Fans of Wright's work will notice a familiar face in ASBO, and the story is told in such a way that you really hate to have to stop listening when life dictates it's time to take a break. I hope to see more of the Wright/Patterson combination in the near future.

    "Real Life Horror Story"

“Asbo” is a truly terrifying novel. I especially wouldn’t listen if you’re up late at night. Which is exactly what I did. This is something that could possibly happen. Very frightening indeed.

I wanted Andrew to stand up to those punks from the beginning. Once they detected fear and established territory, it was a matter of time before they took control. They were nothing less than a gang of sociopaths looking for trouble.

It was hard to listen to, yet I felt too compelled to stop listening. Yikes! I would recommend this for a good listen in the real life horror genre.

About the narrator: Nigel Patterson was excellent in this story. He added a sense of urgency and panic to keep the reader drawn in. He made the story believable. I think he did a wonderful job voicing this audiobook.

This is another amazing book by Iain Rob Wright!!! Not for the faint of heart, but truly terrifying from pretty much the start to the finish! Will make you think about the extremes you would go thru to protect your family!
One can never go wrong to listen to the incredible narration by Nigel Patterson. With his amazing voice, he pulls you right into the story, like you are right there living it!!!
