Summary

A string of shocking murders has occurred in a small community outside of San Francisco, each victim an innocent child.

For Detective Kate Martinelli, just promoted to Homicide, and her partner Alonzo Hawkin it's going to be a difficult case.

As the detectives dig deeper, they realise there is a coldly calculating and tortuous mind at work which they must outmanoeuvre if they are to prevent further carnage.

A heady mix of mystery, action and drama

Where does A Grave Talent rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book would definitely be in my top five reads of all time.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Kate the lead character but my favourite would be Alonzo Hawkin. He is a very complex character and while your pretty sure he's one of the good guys, he has a hard edge that ensures plenty character development.

Have you listened to any of Alyssa Bresnahan’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Being from Europe sometimes a strong american accent can be very distracting and takes from the overall experience but I'm a big fan of Alyssa Bresnahan, she always delivers a good performance.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really liked the ending. It was wonderfully written and had a definite taste of more.

Slow but kept me listening

This book was well written with interesting characters but the plot was incredibly slow moving, the focus very much on the characters rather than any kind of detective work or plot development. The narrator added to this with the glacial pace of her reading. I spent a lot of time wishing I could speed her up.
Having said that, the quality of the writing and the promise of the characters kept me listening and I have already downloaded the next in the series. There's real promise here but the author needs to find a better balance between plot and characterisation.

Disappointing story line

Very muddled story line lost me at times but after a lot of concentration drew me into the plot , and had to keep listening. Didn't impress me enough to go looking for another book by this writer. Narration I think was what held me at times, but overall a story line that had to have its conclusion.
