Dan Hendricks is a man in need of a lifeline. A former CIA operative, he is now an agent for hire by foreign powers on the hunt for dangerous fugitives. It's a lethal world at the best of times, and Dan knows his number is almost up. His next job could be his last - and his next job is his biggest yet.
The target sounds trackable enough: Jacques Fillon, who gave up his life trying to save a fellow passenger following a bus crash in northern Sweden. But the man was something of an enigma in this rural community, and his death exposes his greatest secret: Jacques Fillon never existed at all.
Dan is tasked with uncovering Fillon's true identity - but can he do so before his own past catches up with him?

I would not have classed this as a thriller as it was lacking in thrills. Just because people die, it doesn't equal excitement & great investigative skill.
The pace was desultory, the main character was conflicted but there was a smattering of a story.
Gave it 3* because I made it to the end!
"Excellent espionage novel!"
A Death in Sweden is about intrigue and murder within US intelligence operations. There are really no good guys here. It is a power struggle of two senior level US intelligence leaders. Dan Hendricks, the protagonist , kills a lot of people, but in the end he is simply a pawn, a highly effective pawn but still a pawn. The setting of the novel is Europe, mostly Sweden, France, and Germany.
"Full of boilerplate"
This is below the level of airplane books . Writing is very bad, with short sentences as if written for kids in grade school. No character development , lots of names, lots of gratuitous violence with little explaining who the various people are. Not even sure who was who, or why they were killing each other.
"Not uninteresting, but essentially c&&p"
I would recommend this to a friend who just wants some diversion, but who isn't troubled by poor narration and plot. I was interested enough to finish the book, but basically this is junk.
Rivals GW Bush for pronunciation slips.
It probably would make a great Hollywood movie--lots and lots of gore, but not much else to it.
"Never saw it coming!"
This really is a first class story! I'm angry with myself for starting it with a really synical attitude. I had recently read a few too many sub par novels and suspected this was merely one more. Please don't make the same mistake! This is creative writing at a whole other level. Allow yourself to get lost in it's interesting setting, well developed characters and a pay off that I personally never saw coming! A splendid read and worth your investment of time! Enjoy!
really good book, well written story. good twists and plot and an interesting character that leads you through the story. well narrated also.
Fast paced, sometimes sad, comical relief when appropriate. Plot was clear with enough suspense to keep you going. Audiobook well narrated.
"A Death in Sweden"
Gave only three star. Good story. Moved a little slow.. but I couldn't stop listening.
"Minute by minute it is revealed"
OK so this is a complex multinational mystery detective story and I love it. It is sort of James Bondish in it's scope but much more genuine in it's emotion. I like the way the story is set and the question put forth and it takes forever to distinguish the clear details and then it becomes at the end the obvious conclusion in the last four pages.... YES!... Great narration and characterization on the part of the speaker. On a par with the Nesbo series for sure but not as black as his stories.
"Slow, complicated start"
The author presents many characters very quickly, bouncing between first and surnames to reference them. Makes following difficult. Story also begins very slow but was worth the wait until it picked up.
I really enjoyed this book. I felt like it was captivating kept me interested the entire book would definitely recommend it to anyone.
