Then Satan has to deal with a rebellion and with human depravity on the increase, Hell's getting over-crowded. It's time for a new assistant. But will Scumspawn (Robert Duncan) get the job? Andy Hamilton stars as Satan in the comedy that's satirical, philosophical, inventive, topical - and timeless.

I can't get enough of this series. never fails to make me laugh regardless of how many times I listen. very clever writing and absolutely stunning performances. my only problem is that I would like each series to be at least 8 hours long.
Heartily recommend this audiobook, very funny satirical comedy, Andy Hamilton is the perfect Satan, the Professor is the great as a counterpoint to the dry humour of Satan, Science v. Fantasy makes for great listening and v. Enjoyable series. Although this is a 1990's series still v. Relevant and funny. Best listen I have had for ages. Found it first on bbc 4 extra and just had to download all the series in audible as couldn't wait for reruns to catch up. Well worth the credits
The professor having a bet with Satan that mankind is inherently decent!
Series 2 builds on series 1 and just gets better and better
V. Funny, laughed out loud and got some v. Strange looks on the tube!
Funny, clever, provocative
Scumspawn's attempts at ingratiating Satan a.k.a Old Harry
Andy Hamilton only plays Satan, the Devil, Lord of Darkness, Beezlebub, Old Harry: all titles of the ruler of hell. There are different actors playing the other main roles and the incidental roles. The main characters (apart from Andy Hamilton's Satan) are the professor; the financial whizz kid who killed the professor; and Scumspawn, the demon who wants to please Satan and be his deputy. They all have their strong points, but If forced to choose then Scumspawn comes above Satan in my estimation of humor and narrative force, although the professor and his relation to his nemesis is often central to the plots.
Dare to laugh at the Devil
Complete second series and the name and role of the assistant demon has changed so listen after the complete first series to derive maximum comprehension and enjoyment.
This is my favourite radio comedy programme ever, works on every level, as a sitcom, a comedy about big ideas, genuine pathos, and very funny slapstick/ broad humour too. Contours up fantastic images. I just love it....
.....well, you clearly have a humour failure. it is a fantastically true depiction of life down under......looking forward to my arrival.....
you can listen to these again and again....true brilliance
Andy Hamilton has written another super script for the denizens of hell. Will the devil find more ways to torment Thomas? Will Scumspawn get to be second in command? Will the professor win an argument out right? Listen and some questions may be answered!!
The genius of Andy Hamilton. There are seven series and a Christmas special, all absolutely first class. Superbly witty, brilliantly performed, a must-have for the collection.
Hopefully you've arrived here after listening to series one and want to know if the exquisite brilliance of this show continues. The answer is yes, of course! If, however, you are reading this but haven't listened to Series 1 'get thee behind' and start there as each season in this series is more enjoyable if listened to in order.
So Gary's gone, after his failed rebellion, and we're introduced to Scumspawn. We will meet Nero, Chuckles, and a host of other reprobates (this is Hell after all). While the Professor's backstory gets a more thorough inspection.
Each episode is thoroughly clever, and is worth repeated listening. This is still a fantastically written series that deserves every ounce of your time and attention. It is only a shame that those who dismiss audio as a valid entertainment medium will miss out on something as marvellous as this.
