Summary
Shortlisted for: Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year – Specsavers National Book Awards 2012
Possibly the only drawback about the best-selling How to Be a Woman was that its author, Caitlin Moran, was limited to pretty much one subject: being a woman.
Moranthology is proof that Caitlin can actually be ‘quite chatty’ about many other things, including cultural, social and political issues which are usually the province of learned professors, or hot-shot wonks – and not a woman who once, as an experiment, put a wasp in a jar, and got it stoned.
These other subjects include:
- Caffeine,
- Ghostbusters,
- Being Poor,
- Twitter,
- Caravans,
- Obama,
- Wales,
- Marijuana Addiction,
- Paul McCartney,
- The Welfare State,
- Sherlock,
- David Cameron Looking Like Ham,
- Amy Winehouse,
- Elizabeth Taylor’s Eyes,
- Michael Jackson’s Funeral,
- ’The Big Society’,
- Big Hair,
- Nutter-letters,
- Failed Nicknames,
- Wolverhampton,
- Squirrels’ Testicles,
- Sexy Tax,
- Binge-drinking,
- Chivalry,
- Rihanna’s Cardigan,
- Boris Johnson – Albino Shag-hound,
- Party Bags,
- Hot People,
- Transsexuals,
- The Gay Moon Landings,
- My Own, Untimely Death

A good read
I bought this book as I was unexpectedly bowled over by Cailin's other book and was not disappointed by this. It is definitely not 'PC' and it won't be to everyone's taste. However, her engaging style and honest writing make a refreshing change from lots of the usual diatribes of modern day writers. I thought it was not quite as good as her previous book, but then, for me, that had the element of surprise. Well worth downloading.

Funny, insightful, & tough-talking, classic Moran
I had recently read 'How to be a Woman' and then seen Moran do a reading from youtube, so when I saw that she had another book out, I thought it would be one to listen to, rather than read, because she narrates it herself. I wasn't disappointed, although it is not as funny as 'How to be a Woman', its still a really good listen.

Definitely one to read, not listen to
How can Caitlin Moran write so brilliantly then completely balls-up reading it?? Couldn't finish, sounds like Jeremy Clarkson on crack.

Funny and truthful
Really enjoyed the narration, Caitlin is great, energy and enthusiasm. The articles are great, a memorable one being Ronnie Wood. Sometimes the way she pronounced certain words (wholly, couture) jarred slightly but that is minor, overall it was wonderful and I have already bought how to build a girl to listen to next.

Oh, Caitlin....
I gave this a good go, I really did, but your smug, irritating intonation defeated me. "Look! I'm mad! I interview famous people! Oooh, get me, I'm bonkers but lovable!" Thanks but no thanks. I need to lay down for a bit with a damp flannel over my eyes.....

a cocktail of intellect, humour and girl power!!
it's hard to put this rock star of a lady into words and I think it's unfair to; some people are just too amazing you can't do it! I've never been a fan of anybody least of all celebrities, however I found this down to earth, self educated, intelligent and hilarious lady irresistible, I'm a fan indeed! can I also add I tweeted her once about another book of hers Id enjoyed and she tweeted me back; if you're not a fan already...

must read for al Moran Fans
great to hear the woman herself delivering her witty and thoughtful columns. Some of the longer pieces are very good, in particular those with rock stars, esp Lady Gaga. Enjoyed every minute.

Joyous, heartbreaking and funny.
Would you consider the audio edition of Moranthology to be better than the print version?
I have not read the book, though it is in my too read pile, but having Cate read her book to me on long drives over the past month has been great.
What other book might you compare Moranthology to, and why?
This is not an autobiography, not a traditional monologue, not a political treatise. But what it is, in my reading world, is unique. It is a series of blogs linked together with her musings. It is worth it just for that. Dip in and out and when you go back within a minute she has your attention again.
Which character – as performed by Caitlin Moran – was your favourite?
There is only one character of note in the volume. And that is Caitlin Moran, in all her guises. Child through grownup, parent, journalist, friend, wife, mother, daughter. There are few books as searingly honest about the myriad of roles a women plays and all written through her coloumn.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Don't give up on me because i'm not done with you.
Any additional comments?
Some curmudgeons on here complain there is too much Sherlock and Dr Who in here. There simply isn't. Out of the 10 + hours it is well under 30 minutes and what it is, aside from a fan girl letter, is talking about pop culture.
Be warned though that there are bits in here that will have you crying your eyes out, and if a woman, as mad as hell. Sometimes, without shouting the word feminist, some of what she says causes knots of anger and disbelief that we have to do something and have to change. And then within a few minutes, you're laughing again. But the knot is still there.
