Summary

A three-month run of the new farce, 'Not On Your Wife!', is not to be sniffed at by a jobbing actor. Especially when there’s the distinct possibility of a West End run. Which is why Charles Paris is standing on stage with his trousers round his ankles. Rehearsals have gone well, the laughs are coming and there’s always the attractions of Cookie Stone. But by the time the troupe reaches Bath a darker mood has set in and Charles’ old friend Mark has a drink problem that amounts to a death wish. But it’s not the drink that kills Mark; it’s somebody in the cast who has a secret that Mark must not be allowed to reveal...

Beautifully read story of a rogue!

Charles Paris is every woman’s nightmare but he has such a kind heart and means well! His creator makes an excellent job of reading his book. Well done!

Good fun

Wonderfully understated world-weary characters and cynical atmosphere - always a good listen and well read by the author.

You've got to love Charles Paris

Another great Charles Paris murder mystery written and read by Simon Brett.

Charles Paris the dissolute journeyman actor finds himself involved in another mysterious death, I loved the whole story, the characters, the plot twists and sidelines, and of course Simon Brett’s excellent reading – he has a fantastic imagination to develop such entertaining and enjoyable tales, and wonderful voice to portray the characters and to make his books such successful audio books. Well done Simon and of course Charles for once again solving the mystery! (keep at it Charles, one day there will be a breakthrough in your acting career)

A killer of a book

This is one of many terrifically well read books by the author. He manages to combine humour and mystery with great characters, all spearheaded by the frequently drunk failed husband, lover and father, Charles Paris. Bill Nighy has played the part but nowhere near as well as the writer. This is an entertainment based on Charles' involvement in yet another play that has its mix of the good, the bad and the downright unappealing in the form of a company of thespians who are appearing in a farce where bad taste is what the actors think of the script. Throw in romantic associations that he really shouldn't get involved in, death in an unexpected venue and drink - lots of it - and the recipe is complete.

An amusing, easy listen.

Simon Brett does it again with this amusing, easy listening Charles Paris. I love Brett's characterisation and his narration is perfect. Unfortunately this audiobook is let down by some poor sound quality which does detract a little from the enjoyment.

Pretty boring tbh - too much about alcohol

On this form, I'm not sure I'd bother with another one of these books. All the focus on drinking and alcoholism was tedious.
