Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy (1883 - 1945) was a Russian and Soviet writer who wrote in many genres but specialized in science fiction and historical novels. The experimental Russian film Papa, Umer Ded Moroz (1991) was loosely based on this short story, "The Vampire's Family".
