Summary
For 300 years, The Pilgrim's Progress has remained perhaps the best-loved and most read of devotional fictions. In plain yet powerful and moving language, Bunyan tells the story of Christian's struggle to attain salvation and the Gates of Heaven. He must pass through the Slough of Despond, ward off the temptations of Vanity Fair, and fight the monstrous Apollyon. In Part II, his wife and children follow the same path, helped and protected by Great-heart, until for them, too, "the trumpets sound on the other side."

A must listen to for all who follow Christ
This book is over 300 years old and is current to Christians today as it was then.If your Christian walk has become stale, religion and you think you have "arrived " then think again ,John Bunion was a man who was jailed for over 13 years in all for his commitment to preach the Gospel.
I have learned where i am going wrong through this book ,i have been challenged immensely ,enlightened whole heartedly and can honestly say without a shadow of a doubt only in the first section alone ,has this timeless book brought me back into a relationship with The Lord Jesus Christ ,Come all who are heavy ladened and are wearisome and i shall give you rest .
This book will convict you, will convince you of your short comings ,its light hearted melody is soberingly refreshing and at the same time deadly serious..This book is an essential tool for all who are serious followers of the Lord .Take courage your Christian life is not over till you reach the end and ended already if you think you've made it !!! ..May you be blessed abundantly

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

A glimpse of puritanical anglicanism.
A good insight into evangelical puritanism that helped to shape world history.
However, the narrative is very boring but potentially the inspiration for the Mr Men series; Mr Happy, Mr Silly, Mr Greedy etc.
Bunyan's tale is simple: broken in two. Part one is a quest (a pilgrimage depicted in a dream). The second part tells a similar trajectory undertaken by relatives. Goodness and godly Christian virtues are tested by the adversarial temptations of evil and ungodly non-Christian virtues.
Good wins and thus Christianity provides providential deliverance.
The puritans weren't famous for wild parties or much behaviour that resembled fun. Can't imagine Bunyan was a fan of lighthearted conversations.
If you are determined to read/listen to this book, be warned, by the end, you will be thankful that novels progressed a great deal in 400 years.

most excellent
Very well read, very good character voices, plenty to ponder on.
I understand that it is the first novel written in English and has never been out of print.
