Summary

The Devil comes to Moscow, but he isn't all bad; Pontius Pilate sentences a charismatic leader to his death, but yearns for redemption; and a writer tries to destroy his greatest tale, but discovers that manuscripts don't burn. Multi-layered and entrancing, blending sharp satire with glorious fantasy, The Master and Margarita is ceaselessly inventive and profoundly moving. In its imaginative freedom and raising of eternal human concerns, it is one of the world's great novels.

Amazing

This one of the most profound books I have ever listened too and beautifully narated by Julian Rind Tutt best narrator ever I felt I was riding with them and could almost feel the primus stove burning.

Very weird

Listened to this without knowing anything about it so was expecting it to make sense at some point. The narration was fantastic and the story was interesting if a bit strange. Once I did realise it was fantasy that didn't adhere to normality I just went with the flow. I did enjoy it but wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to others.

A pinnacle

This novel is a rare experience - compelling, moving, bizarre and enlightening. One of those novels where you find yourself wondering "how can anyone write this kind of thing?" There will be times where you find yourself shrinking from the savagery and times when you find yourself laughing out loud. Julian Rhind-Tutt's performance is just about perfect.

Fantastic story brilliantly read

This was one of my most enjoyable experiences on Audible- an engrossing story that is hilarious, sardonic, fantastical in a Lewis Carroll way and also very moving. The vocal characterisations by Julian Rhind-Tutt are simply brilliantly done - my favourite was a wonderfully funny voicing of Behemoth the black cat. I will certainly look out for other books narrated by him. This is one of the most popular books in Russia and deserves to be here as well - the humour travels extremely well.

Interesting story, very creative but left me a bit wanting in the end

Story: A delightfully visual and farcical story but left me a bit hanging in the end. I kept waiting for the story to go somewhere but I'm not sure it really did, or what the point was.
Performance: The performances were good but perhaps a bit too dramatised and exaggerated especially the portrayal of the cat which was hard to listen to. I think I otherwise could have liked this character but was put off by some of the voice portrayals.

Quirky, entertaining but a meanders a bit

The sort of Russian novel that reinforces the idea that perhaps the abridged version would be better. Wonderful first third or so but then seems to lose its way a bit. Definitely worth finishing as the fun returns. Excellently read.

Mischief and mayhem in Moscow

Easily one of my favourite audio books Bugalov’s satirical tale of the Devil appearing in 1930’s Stalinist Russia juxtaposed with an author’s uncannily accurate account of the meeting between Pontus Pilate and Jesus of Nazareth is a rare find a book of quality something to treasure and pass on to friends. Julian Rhind-Tutt‘s narration is masterful his delivery is quiet and dreamy at times rising to pitch perfect understated sarcasm to laugh out loud funny a real joy to listen to .The perfect combination of a unique wonderful book and excellent presentation
