Summary
The complete, unabridged audiobook of The Two Towers.
Building on the story begun in The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, this is the second part of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, available as a complete and unabridged audiobook.
Frodo and the Companions of the Ring have been beset by danger during their quest to prevent the Ruling Ring from falling into the hands of the Dark Lord by destroying it in the Cracks of Doom. They have lost the wizard, Gandalf, in the battle with an evil spirit in the Mines of Moria; and at the Falls of Rauros, Boromir, seduced by the power of the Ring, tried to seize it by force. While Frodo and Sam made their escape the rest of the company were attacked by Orcs.
Now they continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin – alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go.
Critic reviews
"An extraordinary book. It deals with a stupendous theme. It leads us through a succession of strange and astonishing episodes, some of them magnificent." (The Observer)
"Among the greatest works of imaginative fiction of the twentieth century." (Sunday Telegraph)
Featured article: Aragorn - a Lord of the Rings character guide
From his time as the ranger Strider to his ascension to King of Gondor, this guide has everything you need to know about the hero Aragorn. Perhaps one of the most mysterious and intriguing characters in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Aragorn is known by many names: Strider, Elessar, Estel, and finally Aragorn II, heir to the throne of Gondor and Arnor. From a shadowy tracker who mysteriously comes to Frodo's aid to an essential member of the Fellowship of the Ring to the long-awaited king who restores harmony and peace to Middle-earth, Aragorn plays many important roles in the fantasy epic. And he has quite an interesting history.

Really well read again
I found the Hobbit portion of the book most interesting, and surprised to find a lot of it was moved to the Return of the King in the movies which, in addition to other portions, and having now gone through that one too, it appears to have been a good move, subject to apparent pacing problems in ROTK.
Anyway, it's good. A couple of boring portions here and there, but not too bad in that regard. I'm so pleased about how they handled Sauruman in the movies, giving him a phenomenal presence that's only really suggested in this book.
Was interesting to hear a close similarity between the Inglis Golem and the Serkis Golem. I wonder if his Golem reading here was an inspiration to Andy Serkis.
Anyway. I liked it, but didn't love it.

Tense and powerful storytelling!
Great to hear all of the details the films could not manage to squeeze in! Action, tension, friendship, love and hate. Really powerful!

Totes emosh
This one was real heart-wrenching, but so good. I've heard people struggle to listen to this one because it's a bit slow and dull but as a firm fan of the movies I breezed through!

I love this book so much.
Nothing will ever beat the wonder and magic of the first book, but this has some fantastic moments. The Frodo and Sam chapters are so much more interesting than how they are portrayed in the film and the character arc for Sam is just my favourite. Merry, Pippin and Treebeard are a fantastic trio.

The definitive reading. Rob Inglis cannot be beat
Outstanding and definitive performance by Rob Inglis. I've owned various formats of this recording since it was recorded many years ago. I've listened to it over 40 times, each time provides such rich enjoyment. I cannot hear any other version of the songs nor imagine any other voice reading this. Yes, Serkis' Gollum is excellent in itself, but Rob Inglis' overall performance brings all the necessary pathos, excitement, humanity, adventure, and heroism featured in this epic trilogy.

Run Shadowfax. Show us the meaning of haste
Thoroughly enjoyed the Rob Inglis narration of the Tow Towers, felt there was pace and dramatic sense really came to life. Particularly enjoyed Gandalf riding to Minus Tirath with the background music,
