Summary

The complete, unabridged audiobook of The Fellowship of the Ring.

Continuing the story begun in The Hobbit, this is the first part of Tolkien’s epic masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, available as a complete and unabridged audiobook.

Sauron, the Dark Lord, has gathered to him all the Rings of Power - the means by which he intends to rule Middle-earth. All he lacks in his plans for dominion is the One Ring - the ring that rules them all - which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.

In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, as his elderly cousin Bilbo entrusts the Ring to his care. Frodo must leave his home and make a perilous journey across Middle-earth to the Cracks of Doom, there to destroy the Ring and foil the Dark Lord in his evil purpose.

Good but flawed.

The overall story was very good, though it was a little slow in parts for my taste. The main issues are that the reader seemed to lean away from the microphone at points which made him sound quieter and more muffled. The singing was also quite cringy.

Good book

Good for fantasy lovers, but the narration contains lots of very irritating singing. But that's just my opinion, and you should listen to it and make up your own mind about the book.

Superb.

I've read the book a dozen or so times and got a pleasingly different perspective out of this audio rendition. The Narrator really is top drawer, smooth yet distinct, varied, and always interesting - this is one of those rare cases where 5* actually means 5*.

An Epic masterpiece

Epic in all its glory. A must hear and an excellent performance I have heard several audio books but seldom so thrilling.

Its the lord of the rings. Enough said.

Rob Inglis does a great job here and makes the voices identifiable and interestingly varied. He even makes the songs (the driest part i find when reading tolkein) fun too.
