Summary

Considered one of the all-time great American works of fiction, Fitzgerald’s glorious yet ultimately tragic social satire on the Jazz Age encapsulates the exuberance, energy and decadence of an era. After the Great War, the mysterious Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, pursues wealth, riches and the lady he lost to another man with stoic determination. He buys a mansion across from her house and throws lavish parties to entice her. When Gatsby finally does reunite with Daisy Buchanan, tragic events are set in motion. Told through the eyes of his detached and omnipresent neighbour and friend, Nick Carraway, Fitzgerald’s succinct and powerful prose hints at the destruction and tragedy that awaits.

The best version of The Great Gatsby

I was going to buy a different audiobook of The Great Gatsby from a friend's recommendation but this one came out much more recently and I wanted to give it a try. Well worth it - in my opinion this version of Nick is much more true to his character and there are very few mistakes, if any!

flawless

Flawlessly narratted - A passionate and moving story that has withstood the test of time - a tragedy - I listened to it in a single session - spellbound from beginning to end.

of a great novel. This version has a conversational feel - Nick Caraway is telling his story especially for us. Absorbing.

Apparent Classic

I purchased this book because I heard that it was a classic and was mentioned in other shows that I have watched. my opinion I believe that the character development it was ok but and storyline was dragged out. This is only my personal opinion so maybe others will enjoy the book a lot more than me but I found my self zoning out at times and becoming bored.

It was also quite a depressing book with not much excitement.

There is a reason why this is a classic.

I purchased this book reluctantly because “it was not my kind of book but I had to read it because it was a classic”.
I’m really glad I bought the book. There is a reason for it to be a classic. At no point the book slows down or becomes boring; it flows perfectly and the main character is nothing I thought he would be. The narrator does a great job too.
