Publisher's Summary

The Art of War is the most famous and longest-lasting book on the practice of war. The book does not mince words: war is about winning; it is not a gentleman's game; it is about using every means at one's disposal to tip the odds in one's favor. Of the centuries, this book has been used by military figures, war departments, business people, educators, and politicians, to name a few. This is the original work without additional editorial comment.

"Disappointing - Rapid fire assault fails to artfully distill the content"

There is 15 minutes dedicated to introducing this book, touting that it's methods have been used today far beyond military strategist...classrooms, businesses, neighborhoods, etc. And that's the last we hear of it. What follows is a rapid fire list of strategies that are an assault on the ears.

The speaker uses a staccato approach that starts each statement loud and trails off at the end. This, combines with the fast pace made me grateful for the short duration of the entire book.

Still, I could have overlooked this better had the points included application in the civilians world, as touted in the intro.

Not what I was looking for. Perhaps there is another version to uncover.

"Guy sounds interested but editing issues"

So I would recommend you to listen to this over and over again to actually receive the wisdom. There ate some editing issues near the end, I highly suggest reading it vs listening to it, because it is much easier to pause and think about the principles while reading

    "Not bad for the price"

Not bad for the price but sometimes I caught myself continuously having to rewind because I couldn't understand what he said, so I guess i would have to say the voice over wasn't that great.

    "Poor narrator"

The narrator's tone is inconsistent. His pitch varies and makes it rather difficult to hear every word that's spoken.
The book itself begs to be listened to and applied regularly.

    "Not the best narration"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I wound't recommend this because the performance on the audio by its speaker is poor. You can hear each pause, not very enthusiastic and sometimes other background noise. Not an easy listen.

Has The Art of War turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. This looks like the The Art of War Lionel Giles translation as advertised. The book itself is fine, the narration is a different story.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The way it is read and narrated. Not an easy listen.

    Any additional comments?

This translation of The Art of War (Lionel Giles translation) costs too much as there are much cheaper versions (from free to low-cost) on the internet and again the audio quality plus narration didn't make it any better. Though I paid for this one, I had to look on the web for one that is much easier on the ears and listening quality.

    "Annoying Voice"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

i enjoyed the book just the voice was unbearable.

Would you be willing to try another one of Deaver Brown’s performances?

No, the voice is incredibly annoying and makes the smartest insights sound stupid. It was difficult to judge the content of the book due to the horrible performance.
