Summary

When Mrs. Dashwood is forced by an avaricious daughter-in-law to leave the family home in Sussex, she takes her three daughters to live in a modest cottage in Devon. For Elinor, the eldest daughter, the move means a painful separation from the man she loves, but her sister Marianne finds in Devon the romance and excitement which she longs for. The contrasting fortunes and temperaments of the two girls as they struggle to cope in their different ways with the cruel events which fate has in store for them are portrayed by Jane Austen with her usual irony, humour, and profound sensibility.

Worth persevering

The start of the story was quite slow as is often the case with Jane Austen but just as I was about to loose interest there was a twist. I then found myself desperate to hear more.
The performance by Juliet Stevenson was great. I particularly liked Mrs Jennings!

A must for Austen lovers!

I am a huge Jane Austen fan and am very picky about audio versions of her books - an unabridged version is always best, and the narrator is key.
Rest assured fellow Austen fans, this is fine listening and Juliet Stephenson has become one of my favourite audio book narrators.
Highly enjoyable!

Juliet Stevenson is brilliant!

A tail of contrast with the wit and observation of the unrivalled Jane Austin. Read the tail of romantic love as the struggle of the rational against hyperbole, academia versus tabloids, the real world versus Donald Trump and it remains relevant and fresh.

A delightful classic

A book I adore regardless of how many times I have read, or listened to it. Juliet Stevenson's narration is perfect for Austen.
