Élève surdoué, poète maudit, mi-voyou, mi-débauché, mercenaire... Rimbaud (1854-1891) fut tout cela à la fois, et plus encore. À 16 ans, le plus génial des poètes français, admiré par Baudelaire, Verlaine et Mallarmé, écrit ses premiers poèmes pour "s'évader de la réalité". Quatre ans plus tard, il renonce à l'écriture et se fait marchand, aventurier, négociant d'armes dans la lointaine Arabie... Un choix d'une vingtaine de poèmes extraits des deux recueils parmi les plus célèbres de la poésie française : Poésies et Une saison en enfer.
