Orphaned and subjected to cruelty at Lowood charity school, Jane nonetheless emerges unbroken in spirit and integrity. The story of how Jane becomes governess at Thornfield Hall, meets and loves Mr. Rochester, and discovers the impediment to their lawful marriage transcends melodrama to portray a woman's passionate search for a wider and richer life than that traditionally accorded to her by Victorian society.
Hailed by William Makepeace Thackeray as "the masterwork of a great genius," this impassioned love story is still regarded, more than a century later, as one of the finest novels in literature.

"What a joy to hear a favorite classic performed with excellence! Nadia May's skill as a storyteller has the listener soon believing Jane Eyre is speaking directly to him or her.... A timeless work flawlessly presented." - (AudioFile)

"The perfect Jane Eyre"
Jane Eyre tells her own story--how independent she is in ways unexpected for the time period! Because the book unfolds in the first person, the narrator has to be good in order to bring Jane to life. Nadia May has recorded many of Jane Austen and George Eliot's novels and her nuanced readings are a delight. I loved this version of an old classic.
Lovely and classic novel. If you liked House of 7 Gables or Persuasion, then this is a great choice, too.
"i love nadia may"
nadia may is a great narrator for anything british. I have this audio book w another narrator and the story dragged on, but w this narrator it flew by and was very enjoyable
if you try this book and like it with this narrator try THE ENCHANTED APRIL it is amazingly narrated by May.
