Although Stoker did not invent the vampire, the novel's influence on the popularity of vampires has been singularly responsible for many theatrical, film, and television interpretations since its publication. Required listening for any fan of the genre!

I was looking forward to sinking my teeth into this classic book. Pun intended. And although the actor narrates well and the main cast is intelligible, some of the supporting characters voices are so comically bad that I almost returned the book. I think it's around chapter 9. You'll know it when you hear it.
I also had to check that Van Helsing was Dutch as he sounded like the Count from Sesame Street. I don't expect the actor to get all the accents spot on obviously but with such an important character I'd expected a bit better.
But the old man's voice I mentioned earlier is unintelligible and so shrill that it's grating and you may need to take a break from the book.
Also you'll hear the actor's phone go off more than 50 times throughout the narrative. A really unprofessional recording.
Great story though.
This is the second audio book in two days that I have discarded without finishing it. More effort should be put into selecting skilled storytellers instead of just using people with pleasant voices, this is, after all the whole point of audio tapes!!
The storyline is great, just not the presentation.
immersive, strangely believable
The count meeting Jonathan Harker for the first time
No 1st listen
No, too long for me to tackle in one go. However does warrant extended listening
I was re visiting a book from many years ago, listening on audible brought a new dimension to the experience, thanks.
As good as the print version - enjoyable to listen to whilst driving.
The characterisation was good throughout, although Van Helsing's accent made it difficult to hear clearly sometimes.
As above, good characterisation in a suitably atmospheric voice.
No, nice to hear a few chapters whilst driving to work.
Absolutely splendid! I dare say, I'd listen to it all over again. Wonderful just wonderful.
The narrator did a fantastic job and of course Dracula is a classic for a reason.
"Bram Stoker and Peter Batchelor-what a team A+++"
It is so difficult to rank them all, but this one by Bram Stoker, as performed by Mr. Batchelor has to be one of the best
The number of days that elapsed between the time that Mina was initially infected and the rest found out. How could such bright, knowledgeable individuals, aware of the potential hazard and risk, ignore all of the symptoms of the "infection" and just attribute Mina's lethargy and paleness to "exhaustion". How they never even looked at her neck...
No, too much.
A classic... well deservedly so.
"Sound quality is terrible"
no, although the story is quite good, the performance of the narrator is terrible, he doesn't spell well the words and the volume levels are really low so you can't hear what he is saying in most of the story, it's a pity
"oh so much blood!"
this book is a tough read. i read about half before i gave up. thankfully i was able to hear this audio production. still i found it to be somewhat difficult to follow in some parts. maybe the abridged version fixed these dragged out parts. but all in all i was able to get a decent picture of the tale in my mind. all i could think of though while listening was the brilliant mind of Mel Brooks twisting the spooky tale into a comedic romp.
"The great vampire novel"
This classic book is excellently narrated, and well worth the time. The narration presents this novel as well as you could hope, making great effort to make this novel pleasing, understandable and easy to follow, not an easy task for an elegant novel written more than a century ago.
The story was told well. I'm glad l have listened to the original story finally.
"Character voices made me cringe"
Character voices made me cringe
Classic story but the narration is just not great
Read the book
I loved the book and Peter Batchelor is a great story teller. He makes different voices and really brings the characters to life.
Great book from start to finish. The audio was off like their was additional
