Summary
"Die Schwere Not", 1838 erschienen, ist die erste von Gontscharow überlieferte Erzählung. In der Gestalt des Nikon Ustinovic Tjazelenko, den "eine beispiellose, methodische Faulheit und eine heroische Gleichmut für die Eitelkeiten dieser Welt" auszeichnet, findet sich das Urbild des "Oblomov", dessen Lebensroman Gontscharow 21 Jahre später Weltruhm verschaffte. Auch "Die Schwere Not", Tjazelenko's Bezeichnung für eine seltsame Krankheit, die saisonal seuchenartig die Einwohner Petersburg befällt, taucht in den späteren Oblomov-Texten wieder auf - allerdings als eine Art ansteckende Schlafseuche. Hier jedoch bedeutet "die Schwere Not" noch das genaue Gegenteil der Schlafsucht. Der Übersetzer Peter Urban beschreibt sie als die grassierende Sucht der Petersburger, "beim ersten Frühlingshauch... sich der sinnlosesten, ja lebensgefährlichen Form der Bewegung hinzugeben: Spaziergängen, Ausflugsfahrten, Landpartien, Picknicks".
