Summary

Originally published in 1932, this outstanding work of literature is more crucial and relevant today than ever before.

“One of the most prophetic dystopian works of the 20th century”—Wall Street Journal

Cloning, feel-good drugs, antiaging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media—has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller’s genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 AF (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

A powerful work of speculative fiction that has enthralled and terrified readers for generations, Brave New World is both a warning to be heeded and thought-provoking yet satisfying entertainment.

Classic story ruined by terrible voice actor

This is one of my favourite books of all time but the narrator is one the worst I've ever heard.

overall it's great

I feel like there was no ending to it. I would like to hear more to the story of savage and his world. probably because I feel like John Savage in today's world ...good book

Interesting Story, OK Narration

Would you listen to Brave New World again? Why?

It is worth a listen/read, but I wouldn't return to it.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Michael York does a good job of the general narration, but some of his accents are a little silly and don't really fit within the context of the story.

Any additional comments?

Overall this is an enjoyable story. It deals with some interesting ideas, but does sound dated in places.

Thought-provoking and brilliantly read

Michael York's timbre is perfect for this dystopian future view of the world. A thought-provoking and we queerly compelling story that has analogies in today's real world.

disappointed in the story.

I was disappointed in the story, I struggle to remain interested at times. Not a patch on 1984.

Interesting concepts

Was interesting concepts from the blurb but didn't feel they meet these ideas till the latter half of the book and more close to the finishing. There was a big concentration in sex and moghany which i felt spoilt it as i was really interested seeing the ideas of thoughts, money and other aspects being controlled more interesting to see how it'd work

True to the book

For people who want to buy this to read along with the book, I can confirm it’s 100% word for word as written in the book.

Good considering the 2 for 1 deal

The story itself is interesting, seems to be a narrative in the run up to a philosophical debate about desire to escape reality and whether or not happiness on demand and escape from suffering are better than true experience.
Definitely worth a listen if you have considered the question yourself

Timeless Indeed

I've cut a star from the story due to it's occasional over the edge peculiarity.

Even though I do realise that it is precisely that peculiarity which is totally unavoidable and THE core essence of the entire plot.

In any case, the book is added to my favourites list and I will be definitely listening to it again and reading it too.

It has been a far easier and rather more pleasant experience for my intellectual and emotional digestive system in comparison to George Orwell's "1984".

All in all, a highly recommended dystopian take on future none of us would rather see.
Although some bits and parts of that dystopian future seems to have been embedded in our lives already, willy nilly.
