Serves me right!

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I should have listened to the sample of this audio book before buying it. Verne can be pretty creaky, as the styles and concerns of fiction of the nineteenth century grate against contemporary taste. A good reader however, can ameliorate any clunkiness, but this recording doesn't have a good reader. This gentleman reads as if he's just been woken from a deep sleep and does not serve Verne's prose well.

What was most disappointing about Jules Verne’s story?

Prolixity!

Would you be willing to try another one of Peter Batchelor’s performances?

No thank you
