Publisher's Summary

This quintessentially English novel is considered by many to be a masterpiece of storytelling. Set for the most part on a riverbank in rural England, against a backdrop of social, agricultural, and industrial change typical of the early 20th century, Kenneth Grahame's portrayal of the anthropomorphic characters (which include Mole, Ratty, Badger, Otter, and, of course, the incorrigible Mr. Toad) is imaginative, lyrical, and without doubt uniquely humorous. Above all, in this work, the writer strikes a deep and resonant chord of human emotions. There are other audio versions of The Wind in the Willows; however, this rendering brings a fresh, clear, and enthusiastic narration inspired by a lifelong affection for the book.

"The narration cinched it for our grandson . . ."

Our grandson has refused to listen to anything else since I loaded this version of The Wind in the Willows onto his iPod. He is almost 8-years-old, but already is finding out that the narrator (the "storyteller" in his words) can make all the difference in the world in listening to a story. Chris MacDonnell hits this one out of the park with the perfect Brit accent on this English classic tale. Truth be told; I have loaded it on my iPhone to listen to at night and fall peacefully asleep with. LOL

Although I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review, I would highly recommend it for either the price of a credit or a flat out purchase . . . it's worth every penny!!!

"This is the Narration You Want!"

Fantastic book, which is much beloved from my own childhood. I've been sharing this version with my kids at bedtime each evening, and they've been very happy to dive into the adventures of Mr. Toad and his friends. This is an unabridged version, which I greatly prefer, but what really shines in this version is the narration by Chris MacDonnell. He has been added to my list of favorite narrators! He has a fantastic British accent, and the pacing of Neil Gaiman. That makes the story really enjoyable to listen to, even over long stretches. This will definitely be one we listen to over and over again!

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review. That being said, it really is fantastic, and I would have gladly purchased it!

"Great Listen and a Great Story"

This is a wonderful classic tale and the narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life. There are a few options for narrators to choose from, but I can't imagine anyone doing a better job than Chris MacDonnell. His accent and character deliveries are on point, and feel perfectly in place within the narrative.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

    "A Classic and an Enjoyment"
What did you love best about The Wind in the Willows?

I like listening to a classic. I love the storytelling approach to the various adventures going on with the various characters of Toad, Rate, Mole. It's fun to have the humans thrown in there as well. I vaguely remember reading from this book as a child. It was fun to listen to it as an adult. Wow...lot's going on and beautifully written by Mr. Grahame. Reminds me that I need to look up more of his works. Thanks!

    Which scene was your favorite?

I thoroughly enjoyed Toad's car adventure. I just kept shaking my head. He is just such a funny character and doesn't learn his lesson or realize what wonderful 'friends' he meets along the way.

    Any additional comments?

In my opinion, this book is meant to be enjoyed over a long period of time. Just like when you were a kid and looked forward to those 30-60min with your parent at bedtime to discover what will happen next. Mr. MacDonnell's storytelling was a pleasure to listen to and I enjoyed how he played up the various characters (especially Toad).

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. Thank you.

    "Childhood Classic! Excellent!!!"

What can be said about Wind in the Willows? It is a must have for all families really. It is a childhood classic tale great for all ages. This is just one of those stories that truly stands the test of time. The narration is done by Chris MacDonnell. This is the first time I have heard a performance from this narrator. The narrator did an excellent job bringing all these memorable characters to life. This review copy audiobook was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge via Audiobook Boom.

    "Utterly Charming"

I've never read Wind in the Willows before, this was my first visit to the sunny riverbank with Mole, Rat, Badger and Toad. I didn't know whether to expect Redwall or Watership Down, but it was a lovely little story in a category all its own. The imagery in this book is beautiful, the descriptions bring everything to life. I can just picture Mole in his velvet smoking jacket with buttons, Rat with his brace of pistols, and Toad flailing about in his boat with his long limbs. I really enjoyed the mix of stories, with almost spiritual moments sandwiched between riotous chapters on Toad's antics.

Chris MacDonnell as narrator is an excellent choice, his character's speaking voices are so perfect. Mole is voiced as a slightly self-deprecating creature, but his voice strengthens as he grows wiser later in the book. Badger is a big gruff voiced animal, and Toad is voiced just as a toad should be, with a slight nasally tone that comes from not having a proper nose. MacDonnell gives little touches to the story like chuckles and car horns, they fit right in.

I was provided a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. I really think this audiobook would be perfect for a nostalgic adult or to play for a child as a bedtime story.
