A terrifying series about a young boy training to be an exorcist. Thomas Ward is the seventh son of a seventh son and has been apprenticed to the local Spook. The job is hard, the Spook is distant and many apprentices have failed before Thomas. Somehow Thomas must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches and bind boggarts. But when he is tricked into freeing Mother Malkin, the most evil witch in the County, the horror begins...

First off, I highly recommend you get the Unabridged version rather than the Abridged version. It's a fantastic story and for some of it to be edited out is a horrible thought. With a great reader and storyline this book take you into a world of Boggarts, Witches and Ghasts. If you want something to pass the time, something as good as Twilight or Harry Potter or just a great listen then this is the thing for you. I didn't find it that scary, but some parts are a bit gory. I would recommend this to someone over the age of eight.
The tension and the history of the Pendle hill witches.
The Harry potter books as the adventures are just as gripping and exciting.
The theatre in his voice adds to the tension and allows a the imagin to takeover more,
The moment the boy moves out of home and leaves his famil behind
An amazing book for mixed ages groups. I have continued to down load all the books in this series and so far have enjoyed every book.
I enjoy the criminal law, reading 19th century literature, and epic and contemporary fantasy too.
Alice was my favourite character, just when you think she will take the side of evil, she saves the day for the Spook and his Apprentice.
All the character's are well performed by the narrator.
A super tale indeed, made all the better by the narrator, I felt that I was in the cellar under the Spooks house with his Apprentice, I could almost feel and smell the damp in the cellar.
Even the adults should give this audio title a try.
the story was quite good but could have a bit more suspense in it
the reader could have been a bit slower in reading it as I found it too fast
overall good reading material the story was easy to follow but it was too short would have liked to hear more
looking forward to book 2.
I brought this story tape to listen to with my two teenage sons for long car journey. My two children were hooked from the first and I must admit I was too. This is a brilliant exhilarating tale of magic and coming of age is fun for all ages. Through I probably wouldn't let a very young child listen to it as it is in places quite terrifying.
