Summary

Alex and Conner Bailey's world is about to change, in this fast-paced adventure that uniquely combines our modern-day world with the enchanting realm of classic fairytales.

The Land of Stories tells the tale of twins Alex and Conner. Through the mysterious powers of a cherished book of stories, they leave their world behind and find themselves in a foreign land full of wonder and magic where they come face-to-face with the fairy tale characters they grew up reading about. But after a series of encounters with witches, wolves, goblins, and trolls alike, getting back home is going to be harder than they thought.

Wow! I wasn't expecting that!

I downloaded this book as a last minute "MUST use my credit" choice thinking by the title that it was a bunch of short fairytales that I could play for the kids, only to one night not having anything new to read began to listen and was shocked how much I, a fully grown professional adult was gripped by the story and couldn't put it down. The Narration brought the story to life and what a story it's like someone took Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and mashed them altogether with all the fairytales ever told. Found out there is a a series of adventures and Just purchased the whole box set as I cant wait to see what' hapoens next , oh n for my kids as well.

Magical

This book was the embodiment of a good kids/young adult book. Wait, scrap that. Is a book for all ages and I certainly enjoyed the land of stories and Alex and Conner's journies! A must read. 👍👍👍

Horrible narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

the narrator makes us all dizzy since she speaks incredibly fast. I am American and still i can't take her speed!

Would you ever listen to anything by Chris Colfer again?

sure, story is ok. But it is very predictible. only chose as it was the assigned reading for my 9 year old for his book club.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Chris Colfer?

Anyone but her!!!!

Escapism for any age!

I am a 32 yo male and have just finished the listening to the land of stories. I came to it out of curiosity, I wanted to experience Chris Colfers writing. This did not disappoint. After quite a difficult being an adult has sucked, this book was a great escape.
It is filled with characters we all grew up with but adds new context.
You can tell the book is aimed at a younger audience but I was pleasantly surprised with developments and outcomes of the story.
I have already downloaded the next in the series and look forward to starting it.
Highly recommend for children and the child inside all of us.

Best book I've come across!

I've been quite a big fan of Chris for a while now.
I've always had trouble sleeping but I started listening to this last night and oh my did it help!
A great book for everyone! I'm a 16 year old boy and I don't really like books, but Chris' are something different!
A must have!

A very nice background story and twist to classic fairytales

Enjoyed it overall and Colfer’s narration is not bad at all.
The story became a tad bit disjointed when the twins went over the journal trying to guess the items which were described in form of rhymes, practically wracking their brains to crack the codes only to have them spilled out blatantly (including ways of getting them) in two chapters after.
Very odd detailing.
And this is why I gave it a 4 star on the story line.
It was entertaining but not in J.K. Rowling’s league.
Not sure if it is exciting enough for a second time listen time.

Poor Narration, great story.

The book was a lot of fun, loved the characters too. Unfortunate narration though, deadpan and lacking inflection entirely. Odd because some of the character voices show they are capable of more range.
