Of especially naughty children it is sometimes said, "They must have been raised by wolves."
The Incorrigible children actually were.
Turning sixteen is a bittersweet occasion for Miss Penelope Lumley: Her parents remain disappointingly absent, and her perfectly nice young playwright friend, Simon Harley-Dickinson, has not been heard from since he went to visit his ailing great-uncle Pudge in the old sailors' home in Brighton.
Luckily, an invitation to speak at the annual Celebrate Alumnae Knowledge Exposition (or CAKE) at the Swanburne Academy for Poor Bright Females provides just the diversion Penelope needs.
Optoomuchstic as ever, Penelope hopes to give her CAKE talk, see some old friends, and show off the Incorrigible children to Miss Mortimer, but instead she finds her beloved school in an uproar. And when Penelope is asked by the Swanburne Academy board of trustees to demonstrate the academic progress of her three wolfish students so the board can judge the true worth of a Swanburne education, the future of her alma mater - and of her job as governess to the Incorrigibles - hangs in the balance.

"This is a great series for middle school students"
Both are great
The howling children and their insistence to refer to the founder of Swanburn Academy as the flounder. The two pink chickens were also great.
My granddaughter and I listen to this book in the car and laughed and laughed often.
Start at the beginning of this series and enjoy a great time listening to the unwinding tale.
Imaginative, creative, and so very entertaining! I have listened to each of the first four books and have found each one even better than the one before. The narrator does an excellent job and was easy to listen to as well. Looking forward to hearing the next book!!!
"fantastic and entertaining"
loved this imaginative takeoff the three children raised by wolves and their governesses with mysterious origins
"Not as good, but still entertaining"
The mysteries deepen while still being perplexing. This particular story was not as strong as the previous two and was even rather dull in places. Hilarious in others. Particularly the scream. :D Excellent audio performance.
"Distressing and delightful in equal measures"
Like the previous books Penny is pitted against the alleged Judge Quinesby, but this time it is over the soul of Penny's beloved Swanburn school for poor bright females. Penny and her charges the Incorrigibles must face down cats, irate judges, greedy and cruel baronesses and a strangely maternal lady Ashton all on site of Swanburn, which is in danger of loosing its name, it's motto and worst of all its feminist spirit Agatha Swanburn innuendo it with. For those who like who have grown to love Swanburn in Penny's telling, seeing it attacked by Quinsby and baroness Hoover will be most distressing. However be as the incorrigibles, and preserver! The children keep penny's hopes up with their sweetness, trust and passion for learning, and so too must we. For by the end although not all secrets are learned- there's more books after all- many friends are rescued, families are reunited and a curse becomes less of one.
"We loved it!"
The mysteries are awesome! I'm 8.5 years old and my mom and I both love these books. The woman who reads the story does such a good job. Her voices are great!
"ANOTHER NEW FAVORITE!"
I love coming across new authors that become new friends. I have really enjoyed these book and hope that Ms. Wood writes many many more!
"NO ONE does it like these ladies do!"
There is nothing like these books. Fun. Funny. Touching. I am looking SO forward to the next performance.
This is my favorite book in the series so far. I'm enjoying the growth of the children and the further development of the story.
I think Katherine Kellgren could have done a better job on Alexander, Beowulf, and a little bit better on Cassiopeia. I hated this voice of Penelope as a child, but overall it deserves five stars.
