Summary

Here's a fantastic ghost adventure story, laced with menace and humour.

When a baby escapes a murderer intent on killing the entire family, who would have thought it would find safety and security in the local graveyard?

Brought up by the resident ghosts, ghouls and spectres, Bod has an eccentric childhood learning about life from the dead. But for Bod there is also the danger of the murderer still looking for him - after all, he is the last remaining member of the family.

A stunningly original novel deftly constructed over eight chapters, featuring every second year of Bod's life, from babyhood to adolescence. Will Bod survive to be a man?

Too good a book to be classified as for children

This is the second Neil Gaimen book I've read that is classified as a children's book that I, as an adult, have absolutely loved, the first being Coraline.
The Graveyard Book is a fabulous story for everyone, as well as children.
Also I read one reviewer saying the short musical interludes between chapters was too loud and distracting. Personally, I thought it worked perfectly with the reading of the text so I'd add a star for the music making me smile as well if I could.

Brilliant!

I loved this book. It was great to hear something that, although fantastic, could at a stretch be real.

I found myself looking forward to shutting myself in my room and hearing more. Neil Gaiman is a fantastic narrator, which increased my enjoyment.

If there is one tiny thing that spoilt it for me, (but not for long) it is that I realised what was going to happen at one point in the book a bit sooner than I would have liked. I lost the 'surprise'.

Although I never re read/hear any books (once read/heard is enough) I have to say that I would be happy to listen to this again (at any point in the story) if somebody else had it on.

I thoroughly recommend this book.

Deliciously dark

Gaiman's talents once again shine through in this tale of a small boy who's taken into care, by a graveyard. Funny and engaging the story unfolds and characters come to life with Gaiman's wonderful use of accent and tone.
Not quite sure who it's aimed at?

Would highly recommend you listen to this, what more is there to say
Always great when the author reads the book as you really get to hear how it was meant to sound when it was written.

Wonderful!

Exciting, humorous, touching, and with gently-offered wisdom I can apply to my own life. I love this book.
