Small but very determined, Sophie loves animals and is going to be a farmer when she grows up. She has herds of insects and acquires a snail, a rabbit, a cat and a dog.
Sophie's cat, Tom, has surprised them all by producing four kittens. There are more animals to come in the year that Sophie hits six, finds a new farming ally, and makes a triumphant entrance into the sporting arena.

"Mixed up giggles for grownups"
I love this book! Sophie is the world famous typical child! She is determined and knowledgeable and all mixed up. I have giggled and laughed out loud while listening to her mixed up words, her ideas of how her life will go and her experiences with animals. She just cracks me up! Anyone who finds humor coming from a child will likely enjoy this book more than their kids. I know because I actually snorted instead of giggling and everyone looked at me to wonder what I found so funny!
What a treasure Trove of listening delights in the entire series of Sophie Stories by the incomparable Dick King Smith, writer of children’s stories.
Each story when read in order brings you to such a wonderful conclusion of this special little girl Sophie, who is so determined, with hair that looks like she has been through a hedge row backwards, and her entire family including her beloved Octogenarian Aunt Al who lives in the Highlands of Scotland on a most desired farm!(with PONIES of course.)
You and your kiddiewinkies are in for a real treat when you listen to the wonderful heart warming stories, read by Bernard Cribbens who has that special voice that puts us all at ease. Just curl up with the children and listen with them, you won’t want to miss a single word.
