Summary
“So you won't keep anything from me again?"
He put his hand to his chest. "Cross my heart and hope to die."
"Okay then. Though you don't actually have a heart," she said.
"I know."
"And technically, you've already died."
"I know that too."
"Just so we're clear."
Stephanie's uncle Gordon is a writer of horror fiction. But when he dies and leaves her his estate, Stephanie learns that while he may have written horror, it certainly wasn't fiction.
Pursued by evil forces intent on recovering a mysterious key, Stephanie finds help from an unusual source – the wisecracking skeleton of a dead wizard.
When all hell breaks loose, it's lucky for Skulduggery that he's already dead. Though he's about to discover that being a skeleton doesn't stop you from being tortured, if the torturer is determined enough. And if there's anything Skulduggery hates, it's torture… Will evil win the day? Will Stephanie and Skulduggery stop bickering long enough to stop it? One thing's for sure: evil won't know what's hit it.
Critic reviews
"The balance between humour and danger is well handled in Derek Landy's fun, fast-paced fantasy." (The Guardian)

This book pretends to be dark and scaryn but in fact it is funny ( and yes, somewhat dark.) Perfect for 10 and up. Adults will like it as well.

Really enjoyed this story
fast paced and constantly entertaining. I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would from the description. Rupert Degas as always does a fantastic job of narrating.

A fantastic story to sit back a listen to.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I loved reading this book and wasn't sure about listening to it. Even the small piece of music between chapters was enjoyable. I love the banter and sarcasm between Skulduggery and Stephanie and the story kept it's pace, but it ended too soon.
What about Rupert Degas’s performance did you like?
Rupert Degas has brought out the humour and the horror of the story that is second to none.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and tried to but unfortunately life got in the way.
Any additional comments?

I thought the music was just a bit too scary if you are trying to get to sleep.

Skulduggery Pleasant
Excellent story that is brilliantly narrated. The whole family listened to it when we were on holiday last year (aged 7 - 42) and everyone couldn't wait to get back into the car after a day out to find out what happened next! A great tale for everyone to enjoy, even the adults.
