Summary

Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog find excitement and adventure wherever they go in Enid Blyton's most popular series.

In book 17, the Famous Five are skiing and having lots of fun. But who is living in the mysterious house near their chalet? The caretaker claims it's been deserted for years, but the Five are sure they've seen a face at the window. A terrified, and haunted face.

Have the gang got the courage to find out?

Another lovely comfort listen

Not my favourite Famous Five but a pleasant romp beautifully read by Jan Francis who transports you into the story totally.

How has nobody ever strangled Julian?

If you could sum up Five Get Into A Fix in three words, what would they be?

Plutonium mining foiled.

What did you like best about this story?

My kids really enjoyed this. I thought it was even more pants than the usual famous 5 gubbins. Julian is beyond pompous, George is at her most unreasonable whinyness and their obsession with being independent (while having the obsequious lower classes cook for them) really grates in this one. Anyway, it got us to York and back without squabbles so it served its purpose.

What about Jan Francis’s performance did you like?

She saved the book in my opinion! I suspect she isn't Julian's biggest fan. I liked that.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Hell no.

Any additional comments?

Roll on Diana Wynne Jones!
