Summary

Dirk Lloyd has a dark secret. He is the earthly incarnation of a Dark Lord, supreme ruler of the Darklands and leader of armies of orcs and warriors intent on destruction.

Following a final battle between the forces of good and evil, the Dark Lord was defeated and hurled into the Pit of Uttermost Despair. At the bottom of the Pit is a supermarket car park in the town of Whiteshields, in modern day England. When he is found, and tries to explain that he is the Dark Lord, people think he means Dirk Lloyd. The fact that he's trapped in the body of a 13-year-old schoolboy doesn't help. So begins Dirk's battle to recover his dignity, his power, and his lands.

Along the way he faces the inconvenience of being fostered by the do-gooding Purejoies; endless hours of drudgery at the Whiteshields Brainwashing Centre (aka school); a vengeful Headmaster; two meddling Psychotic Persecutors (psychotherapists); and constant laughter and disrespect...

The narrator did a great job and the way it was written was extremely effective...and makes you understand the character...and, at some points, really feel sorry for him. Not many books have many interesting characters, but I found all the characters in this book very likeable.

Entertaining and Inventive for all ages......

This was six hours of enjoyment, a great story, good characters and lots of laugh out loud moments as the Dark Lord in the puny body of a human infant grapples with day to day subjects such as homework, scholar bullies and mundane car journeys.
The author Jamie Thomson seems to have fallen fully formed from another plane into the car park with the Dark Lord and inhabits both worlds with equal facility. The next book is downloaded and ready to go, can't wait but I do wonder if I am going to miss the Dark Lord - is he still trapped on Earth?
