Summary

Great stories are more like a movie than a report. Like a good movie, they are crafted to stimulate an emotional as well as a logical response. They are engaging and effective because they activate the listener's imagination. You haven't really connected with your audience until you've told a story.

This two-part audio is a recording of Doug Stevenson's The Story Theater Method. It is a great overview of the philosophy of the "Story Theater Method" as it relates to public speaking, The Nine Steps of Story Structure, how to choose your stories, and more tips to make your speech memorable and powerful with stories. Doug's form of storytelling for business professionals is a blend of the practical and the theatrical. As a result of utilizing the Story Theater Method, speakers, trainers, leaders, salespeople, entrepreneurs, fundraisers, and business professionals at all levels give more interesting and memorable presentations. Doug will develop your skills through the Four Types of Language, intuitive intelligence, comedy, drama techniques and the Law of 50 Impressions.

Brilliant book to help you make your story POP

Loved it. I'm a public speaker and had loads of training. And I learnt tons more from this book, and I showing that you never know it all.
Highly recommend this book for speakers and authors. You'll be amazed at what you don't know even though you might currently think you know enough! Christina Valentine, mentor, speaker, and author.

Don't waste your credit - I returned it!

Would you try another book written by Doug Stevenson or narrated by uncredited?

No. I got more content from watching Dougs Youtube video.

What was most disappointing about Doug Stevenson’s story?

He talked about himself too much and spent too much time promoting his other books, courses and retreats.

How could the performance have been better?

Give more examples of the 3 parts to your story and the 9 steps. It is more like a free video outlining what this "book" - he refers to it as a webinar and talks about the notes or handout -can do for various professions, what its all about, how he developed it etc.

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

20 or 30 minutes were useful and entertaining.

Any additional comments?

It was disappointing. I could understand if this was a free book, but for me it did not deliver what he claimed I would learn.
