Finally a go-to guide to creating and publishing the kind of content that will make your business thrive. Everybody Writes is a go-to guide to attracting and retaining customers through stellar online communication, because in our content-driven world, every one of us is, in fact, a writer. If you have a web site, you are a publisher. If you are on social media, you are in marketing. And that means that we are all relying on our words to carry our marketing messages. We are all writers. Yeah, but who cares about writing anymore? In a time-challenged world dominated by short and snappy, by click-bait headlines and Twitter streams and Instagram feeds and gifs and video and Snapchat and YOLO and LOL and #tbt... does the idea of focusing on writing seem pedantic and ordinary? Actually, writing matters more now, not less. Our online words are our currency; they tell our customers who we are. Our writing can make us look smart or it can make us look stupid. It can make us seem fun, or warm, or competent, or trustworthy. But it can also make us seem humdrum or discombobulated or flat-out boring. That means you've got to choose words well, and write with economy and the style and honest empathy for your customers. And it means you put a new value on an often-overlooked skill in content marketing: How to write, and how to tell a true story really, really well. So being able to communicate well in writing isn't just nice; it's necessity. And it's also the oft-overlooked cornerstone of nearly all our content marketing.
In Everybody Writes, top marketing veteran Ann Handley gives expert guidance and insight into the process and strategy of content creation, production and publishing, with actionable how-to advice designed to get results. These lessons and rules apply across all of your online assets - like web pages, home page, landing pages, blogs, email, marketing offers, and on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media.

If you're writing anything and plan to write more or just plain do it better, this is for you!
If you're writing anything from tweets and emails through to blog posts and white papers, Ann has great advice, rules, tips and hacks to enable you to get it right!
I absolutely loved this book. Ann's character shone throughout and was brought to life by Cynthia's performance making this such an enjoyable 'read'.
...I'll save that for something else. good read. picked up a lot of points. I'm very technical and was one of them people who did think writing was too descriptive for me. I only now think that is true for the English literature lessons I used to have in school. when I'm writing what's on my mind or what I want to write about I can write a lot and well. I like the tip about first draft. I do spend silly amounts of time getting caught up in best way to present. then forget what else I had to say!
Insurance, sales & marketing professional. Enjoy listening to business books
I really hoped this would inspire me to write more. If you suffer from insomnia buy this
All of it
"Great writing, good story, TERRIBLE narration"
The information is GREAT, but the gal who narrates it terrible. She over-enunciates, reads super slowly and has zero personality. I highly recommend you just buy the hard copy.
Perhaps the author, who seems to have a great personality.
Like I said, the info is great, but listening to the narrator made me want to rip my eyeballs out...or just fall asleep.
"So much data I'll have to buy the hardcopy"
Ann Handley's book is a major reference guide to online communication and content management. The only problem is that she is constantly tossing out cites or references that I didn't have time to write down. This really is a root point from which your understanding and knowledge in this field can grow.
Books like this can live or die on the abilities of the reader. Cynthia Barrett is the reader you would want if you were to pen a book like this. The sparkle in her voice keeps you uplifted and interested through out the book, hers is a very special talent. After listening to her read this book, I think she could read the NY phone book or chant the Bronx Yellow Pages and have you singing along with her.
"Seriously awful voiceover ruined it for me"
Unsure at this point
Used a better voice talent, as well as getting to the point much quicker instead of repeating over and over about what she WILL be covering later in the book. Seems ironic given the topic of the book.
"Dreadful voiceover spoilt this excellent book"
Women into unicats and unicorns
Steven Pressfield, his mellow voice is soothing
Different person doing the voiceover would have made a huge difference.
I lasted less than 5 mins of the breathless screechy drone, it was like nails on a chalk board. The narrator was sadly the worst I've come across on Audible -- so disappointed! Spoilt the experience and anticipation completely.
I'm going to buy the book and read that instead, having glimpsed the book in a store it looked a pretty good read and have followed Ann Handley's excellent blog for a while.
Read the book and skip this audio recording. Was disappointed my money was wasted :(
"Amazing Book A Must for Writers, Bloggers, anyone"
Yes And I have been. The amount of info in this book is hard to digest all at one time.
What? This questions has nothing to do with this book
No But this book was good
"This is what I've been looking for"
Everybody Writes is a great resource for writers, marketers, web content creators and anyone who needs to feel empowered to communicate. I discovered the book during a recent professional conference when I colleague mentioned that it had been a recent book-of-the-month feature on their career development Facebook group.
During my commutes, I listen to books from my audible.com membership. I’m always on the lookout for good content. Author Ann Handley has motivated me to be a better writer and social media advocate for my employer. At work, I produce journalistic stories for the workforce and the public to showcase what our organization does. As it turns out, this is called brand journalism and it’s a thing. There are a myriad of tips on how to become a better writer and content producer.
The social media guidance in the book is spot-on. We often just post things without a strategy. Ann goes into detail on what platforms work best for targeting your stakeholders. I will definitely look into leveraging LinkedIn as a professional network to build brand awareness and make my organization into a thought leader in our field.
I highly recommend this book!
Brand journalism is what I do. I always thought I was just a public affairs specialist!
The writing is not about selling something, but in promoting your organization as a leader in its field.
"Narration of the books really ruins it"
The narration of this book is really unpleasant. I would way rather listen to a book written by the narrator anyday. The performance of this book is so sterile and fake sounding. There is no life in the reading what so ever. I'm not sure weather its a good book or not because I could not get past the narration.
"Good book but not for audiobook"
It's a good book but not for an audio format
This requires a kindle or a hard copy
"For A Book On Writing, It Keeps Your Interest"
Useful, Concise, Insightful
I haven't read anything that compares.
Great nuggets of information, I recommend getting the hardcopy. A lot of information to reference and would be nice to see it in writing.
"I think I can actually write, at least I want to."
This book was well well-written. I listened to it in short bursts so that I could apply the things that I learned.
