Valdemars brutale fremfærd over for sine fjender gjorde ham til en trussel forHansaforbundet, som sendte en hær afsted mod Danmark. I den konflikt vaklede tronen under den danske konge, og han måtte ty til al sin politiske list. Også: Den sorte død og en skræppende guldgås på toppen af Vordingborg Slot.
