If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection.
Two-time Grammy-winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned this lesson through more than his share of adversity - childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Along the way, Lecrae attained an unwavering faith in Jesus and began looking to God for affirmation.
Now as a chart-topping industry anomaly, he has learned to ignore the haters and make peace with his craft. The rap artist holds nothing back as he divulges the most sensitive details of his life, answers his critics, shares intimate handwritten journal entries, and powerfully models how to be Christian in a secular age.
This is the story of one man's journey to faith and freedom.

Excellent autobiography written and read by a thoughtful man whose struggles many will identify with.
Audio version gives the advantage of being able to hear Lecrae rap the lyrics at the beginning of each chapter. It's also great to discover the context for some of Lecrae's albums. I look forward to listening to them again with new ears.
I hope Lecrae's story inspires people to discover God's call for their lives and gives them the courage to pursue it.
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to his story!
At times i wanted a bit more depth about how he overcame specific struggles, but he was so honest and bold with everything. Great listen!
A massive blessing listening to this with his struggle and passion for God and the idea of being in this world not just separate a massive challenge! definitely highly recommend!!!
So much transforming truth and transparency was displayed in every word. I feel encouraged, inspired and empowered. Awesome book!!
"Lecrae. ..finding his Truth"
Will Listen again.
Heavy chapter at beginning but keep going.
Lecrae Journey to Balance and to his Truth is powerful.
Many nuggets of wisdom.
This book inspired me to dig even deeper in my faith. I've always struggled with legalism and what it actually means to be saved. Not only did this book give me an idea of what pursuing God looks like, but also inspired me to dig even deeper into the word of God to find the answers to the questions I've been afraid to ask.
"honest, gritty, but not glamorizing"
Lecrae tells his story honestly, but doesn't glamorize his pre-Christian life. Walks through tough issues of drugs, sex, and abortion.
"Wow, I never would have thought..."
Lecrae expressed his emotions very well while reading.
How often Lecrae was in trouble with the law (cops, etc)
When Lecrae was confronted/called by God and fell to his knees under the preaching of James White (not of AOmin, which is one of my favorite theologians, but of Christ Our King Comm. Chuch). In short, God chose to save Lecrae, that is amazing.
Jesus is a perfect Savior because God's grace is sufficient.
Lecrae is an amazing and I have more respect for him than I've ever had. I will continue to pray for him, his family and his work. I got a better explanation of why he makes the music he makes, and I know why we differ. He and I view walking in holiness a little differently. He explains holiness (the secular/sacred divide) in the last chapter. I'm familiar with his theology, being Reformed myself, so him acknowledging God's sovereign choice to do certain things in his life was refreshing.
"Relatable and thought provoking"
While I can't relate to a young black man growing up in the hood or experiencing abuse as a child, I did relate to the struggles and imperfections he addresses with sex, drugs, and inner anger. I skipped they a few of the early chapters but the last half of the book is poignant and endearing to hear! highly recommended...
I will admit I had no intention of purchasing this book. I thought I knew all I had to about Lecrae. I was wrong, I went through some of the same emotions and feelings growing up. it's good to know i wasn't excellent book, keep changing lives Lecrae.
"Lecrae did an AWESOME job"
I loved reading and listening to his voice to hear directly from his point of view.
"Humbling. Transparent. Inspiring."
This book has been a trip down memory lane. It describes some of the challenges imperfect Christians battle with everyday. It has released condemnation, and inspired growth & redemption. Lecrae, I look forward to impacting the Kingdom of God with you.
"Who would of thought... a rapper with so much soul.? An Anomaly..."
A very powerful story that tells a journey of self-discovery, humility and eventually, unwavering faith in God and his goodness.
Lecrae narrates his story with passion, a stellar performance!!
I especially enjoyed the concept of a biblical world view, and it challenged me to see the world through new eyes.
Highly recommend reading to anyone wanting to push past their comfort zone.
