If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection.
Two-time Grammy-winning rap artist, Lecrae, learned this lesson through more than his share of adversity - childhood abuse, drugs and alcoholism, a stint in rehab, an abortion, and an unsuccessful suicide attempt. Along the way, Lecrae attained an unwavering faith in Jesus and began looking to God for affirmation.
Now as a chart-topping industry anomaly, he has learned to ignore the haters and make peace with his craft. The rap artist holds nothing back as he divulges the most sensitive details of his life, answers his critics, shares intimate handwritten journal entries, and powerfully models how to be Christian in a secular age.
This is the story of one man's journey to faith and freedom.

Excellent autobiography written and read by a thoughtful man whose struggles many will identify with.
Audio version gives the advantage of being able to hear Lecrae rap the lyrics at the beginning of each chapter. It's also great to discover the context for some of Lecrae's albums. I look forward to listening to them again with new ears.
I hope Lecrae's story inspires people to discover God's call for their lives and gives them the courage to pursue it.
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to his story!
At times i wanted a bit more depth about how he overcame specific struggles, but he was so honest and bold with everything. Great listen!
A massive blessing listening to this with his struggle and passion for God and the idea of being in this world not just separate a massive challenge! definitely highly recommend!!!
So much transforming truth and transparency was displayed in every word. I feel encouraged, inspired and empowered. Awesome book!!
"Lecrae. ..finding his Truth"
Will Listen again.
Heavy chapter at beginning but keep going.
Lecrae Journey to Balance and to his Truth is powerful.
Many nuggets of wisdom.
This book inspired me to dig even deeper in my faith. I've always struggled with legalism and what it actually means to be saved. Not only did this book give me an idea of what pursuing God looks like, but also inspired me to dig even deeper into the word of God to find the answers to the questions I've been afraid to ask.
"honest, gritty, but not glamorizing"
Lecrae tells his story honestly, but doesn't glamorize his pre-Christian life. Walks through tough issues of drugs, sex, and abortion.
"Wow, I never would have thought..."
Lecrae expressed his emotions very well while reading.
How often Lecrae was in trouble with the law (cops, etc)
When Lecrae was confronted/called by God and fell to his knees under the preaching of James White (not of AOmin, which is one of my favorite theologians, but of Christ Our King Comm. Chuch). In short, God chose to save Lecrae, that is amazing.
Jesus is a perfect Savior because God's grace is sufficient.
Lecrae is an amazing and I have more respect for him than I've ever had. I will continue to pray for him, his family and his work. I got a better explanation of why he makes the music he makes, and I know why we differ. He and I view walking in holiness a little differently. He explains holiness (the secular/sacred divide) in the last chapter. I'm familiar with his theology, being Reformed myself, so him acknowledging God's sovereign choice to do certain things in his life was refreshing.
"Great conversational tone"
I enjoyed Lecrae's choice to use a conversational tone with this book. It's faced paced but thorough when it needs to be.
"Awesome account of Gods Power to change lives"
Lecrae 's story is compelling account of the power of God to change lives and to heal the broken. Gave this book as a gift to my 25 year old son to bless him. If you have a male in your life give them this book so they can be positively impacted.
"Great life story"
Lecrse put his words together in such a way that spoke to myself(the listener). It remimded me of past situations with myself, and my family. Thank you!
"Keeps it real"
I bought this for the title, not really knowing the content of the book. It captured my attention from the very beginning and I finished it in one sitting. The author was very revealing, not pulling back on embarrassing testimony of his past. The writing felt authentic and from the heart. It reminded me of my own self and caused me to reflect upon some of my past and present actions. I highly recommend this book.
"highly recommended. Great listen"
Very honest and reflective life story. It's great that Lecrae narrates and I think the audio book is a lot richer than the print would be with playing the songs snippets in the beginning as well.
