Summary

This is Christopher Milne’s first autobiography, which was followed by Part 2—The Path through the Trees. From his much publicized childhood on Cotchford Farm to his war experiences, his marriage, and his proprietorship of a successful bookshop in a small English town, the life of the famous author’s son was one of much joy and some pain. It was also one of deep introspection. This book illuminates the shy, quiet man who was a thoughtful observer of the natural world and a gentle commentator on humankind’s relationship to it. Christopher’s writing offers an intriguing portrait of a gifted man who chose to live simply, a choice that ultimately brought him satisfaction—more than could ever come from the empty fame of being the “real” Christopher Robin.

Critic reviews

“This complete sweep of his life, with an introduction by his widow, allows the reader to see him as an introspective, independent child, certainly, but also as the husband, father, bookseller, and writer that he became. All in all, he was much more than the playmate of a bear.” ( Booklist)

An extraordinary British family between 2 wars

So beautiful, that I've listened to the entire book reading twice. Within a few days. I'm sure to pick it up a 3rd time. The narrator does a very good job, well done, expressing feeling in his tone without false sentiment.

The honesty in observations, a sense of mild humour and eloquence in this writing of A.A.Milne's son Christopher Robin is praise worthy.

Very touching, the sensitive nature of both father and son, how it's expressed in their unique relationship, and how nature turned out to be a companion to the son, Christopher Robin, who used to spend long happy hours in it. Alone.

This book, with those about Winnie the Pooh, is in the top 10 of my favorite books, a delight for both heart and soul, also because it's the same for me, all my life, to find nature as companion when present in solitude, especially when I lived for almost 5 years in rural Britain, enjoying the silence and wild beauty of unspoiled nature, as a Dutchy 😉

Excellent

A heartfelt and honest autobiography, wonderfully written by C.R. Milne, and read with great feeling by Peter  Dennis.

I understand now too Christopher, I promise that I do.

I hope that part two " The Path Through the Trees" will be available on audible soon.

About world that is gone

Sentimental story about different world and people raised in totally different manner. Sometimes very charming, sometimes too literary. Brilliant and authentic performance
