Summary

Sir Michael Caine is loved not just for his many films, but for his warmth, honesty, and humour in describing every aspect of his life from his humble South London beginnings to performing alongside the greatest Hollywood actors of the day. As Sheridan Morley wrote about his first book: 'It has taken two decades to get a man back on (Niven's) Moon, and the man is Michael Caine.'

In this long-awaited, and self-penned, new autobiography, he tells us not only the events of the almost 20 years since his last book – which include his Oscar winning film Cider House Rules, as well as the box-office busting Batman - but also many great eye-opening and entertaining stories from his life and career, shedding light on the real Hollywood and the years he struggled to get there.

With all the charm and wit we know him for, this audiobook is set to become a new classic to rank alongside Niven's Moon's a Balloon.

A lot of people know it now

Knowing very little of Caine's background, I purchased this out of curiousity. It was more than a biography, it was a story spoken personally to every listener, The warmth and humour come through with Caine's natural and generous narration of the story of his life. There are moments that make you laugh out loud and some that reach your heart. His simple narration brings out the wit and sparkle that is purely Michael Caine. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of his company.

Interesting journey through an accomplished actor's life

Would certainly recommend getting this audible book. It was, for the most part, very interesting and hearing about some of the big names that Sir Michael has met was fascinating.
I suppose if there's any slightly boring stuff, it's when he goes on about meeting his wife and how wonderful she is..... constantly. Bit mean to say that I guess you might think, and yeah, I get that you would certainly want to mention your wife and say how you met and that she's lovely, but unfortunately this gets mentioned around every 8 sentences from the middle of the book onwards. But don't get me wrong, this is only slightly distracting and on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this autobiography. What makes it more fun is when he laughs after he's reinacted something that happened to him in the past, because it makes you appreciate the validity of that event and makes you feel part of it.

What a pleasure.

I’ve always liked Sir Michael, even though I’ve never met him. He’s a wonderful raconteur with a very gentle insightful take on life. I enjoyed his funny observations and stories. Highly recommended!

Fascinating and enthralling

If you like Michael Caine you will absolutely love this audio book.

From his humble beginnings, through his early films and Hollywood stardom with 'A' list celebrities, his various houses, much loved family, all sprinkled with wonderful anecdotes told by the master himself.

Every significant film gets its own chapter or two with wonderful insight to the locations, story lines and actors involved.

A truely marvellous listen and holds your attention throughout.

Did I mention it was narrated by Michael Caine, his voice is just legendary.

The narrator

Just right pace for me. Great story for our generation. But then, not a lot of people know that!

Superb

Absolutely fantastic. A very very good example of an audio book. Caine's writing is at times hilarious made funnier by having the man himself reading it (they even leave in parts where he laughs himself). A real highlight.
